Muji POV
"C-Can't you guys just leave us alone? You don't have to attack us...right? We'll surrender so-
"Mya! Shut up! Don't be naive!"
Mya flinched at my voice and clenched her spear, holding it close to her chest.
"These guys aren't going to leave us alone no matter what, so it's best to-
I quickly arched backwards and successfully dodged a blade that would've struck my neck. I could see my own reflection from the blade even at this time of night.
"Muji watch out!!"
Another one zoomed beside me and went to attack, but he was blocked by Mya. I quickly flipped up and kicked the man into a tree, infusing my leg with aura.
I then dodged another attack before striking with my dagger, cutting the woman in the face. Enraged, she went for another attack with her sword, but I blocked it.
"Mya! Get her!"
Mya was shaking, she was terrified.
"I-I-I-
"Target the girl! She's too scared to move!"
The man with the bow aimed at Mya, causing me to click my tongue and push the woman back.
He fired his arrow as Mya stood there.
"Mya!! Get down!"
I managed to reach Mya in time as the arrow hit me in the back. I grit my teeth and released a poison fog behind me, but one of them just blew it away.
A wind mage.
"I thought they were all assassins?! Or maybe they are and one has a wind affinity? It doesn't matter, they're coming!!"
I turned around and brought my blades up once again as the lady with the sword rushed in. She swung her blade as I dodged and struck her in the stomach.
This arrow in my back hurt like crazy.
The other one ran at me as well and began to attack, but I was way faster and stronger, so I easily over powered him.
"Is there any way I can knock them out?"
I was losing power and speed with each strike due to blood loss, I had to end this quick. I don't think I had much time left to fight.
"I didn't want to do this, but if I die here I won't get to see my siblings again."
I coated my blades in liquid poison and stood there patiently. The woman rushed in and attacked me, so I quickly dodged and cut her face once more.
She suddenly collapsed to the ground, blood leaking from her mouth.
"W-What did you do to her?!"
"It doesn't matter, get him!!"
The other man rushed as the bow guy fired more arrows. I tilted my body to the left and dodged the arrows before throwing my dagger, successfully hitting the man in the neck.
The last one before me went to attack but I dodged and kneed him in the stomach, causing him to drop to his knees.
I placed a hand on his head as poison fog surrounded him.
"Die."
The man screamed in pain as his skin began to rot. I stood there, feeling this sense of disgust and grief about myself.
I turned around, seeing Mya just standing there shocked.
"I-I'm sorry Muji...I-I-
"Mya."
Mya looked up at me and I smacked her.
Right across her face.
She hit the ground as I walked over and grabbed her by the shirt.
"What the hell are you doing?! Do you want to die?!"
Mya teared up as we looked each other in the eyes.
"I-I'm sorry..."
"Didn't you know how dangerous this would be?! We're risking our lives just by being here and-
I coughed up blood and hit the ground, everything was getting cold. I had lost way too much blood.
"Muji!! Muji don't die!! Please Muji!!"
"I'm ok Mya...help me with the...arrow wound."
Mya grabbed the arrow in my back before slowly pulling it out, causing me to scream in pain. She ripped some of my shirt in order to tie it up before laying me down on her lap.
"I-I won't be scared anymore. So just get some rest. I'll keep you safe even if I have to die. So please...stay alive and let's pass this together ok? We're supposed to become hunters together right?"
I nodded.
"Yeah."
I slowly closed my eyes.
"I'll be counting on you Mya."
Mya POV
As Muji laid there asleep, I couldn't help but begin to cry again. The exam had literally just started, and Muji was out for the count. He was unconscious after fighting all by himself and what did I do?
Nothing.
If Muji died here, his family would hate me.
I would hate me.
"Muji risked his life to protect me, and now it's my turn."
I walked over to one of the dead men and grabbed Muji's other dagger. Poison was still on it, so I brought it back over.
I dripped some of the poison onto my weapon as I stood there.
"Don't worry Muji, I'll keep you safe."
I chose to be Muji's supporter rather than a mage.
And when it got rough I couldn't support him at all.
Some supporter I am.
"Never again. It'll never happen again Muji."
I heard some bushes rustling as I looked up.
A small green creature was headed straight towards me with some type of knife in its hand. I felt my hands shaking, I wanted to run.
I wanted to run so far away.
But-
Muji was counting on me.
"I-I won't let you down Muji."
I stood up in front of Muji and faced the monster. It continued to rush in stupidly, but when it noticed my long ranged weapon it stopped.
"It's smart..."
However I had the advantage in a ranged fight.
I went in for a strike, but it ran right pass my spear and went to attack me. I quickly spun my spear around and cut its neck a bit, causing it to collapse and bleed from the mouth.
I wasn't strong enough to pierce it, due to not having aura, however with Muji's poison it was possible to fight these things on my own.
"Even when unconscious, you're still protecting me."
I smiled a bit.
"Thanks Muji."
I was a bit rattled from the fact that I had just killed something, but I was also happy. This was my first step to become helpful.
"I can do this."
