Now that Izuku was properly medicated for his epilepsy, he didn't experience seizures very often.

However, when he did, they weren't usually too bad.

But this was different.

Izuku felt an aura while driving with a large group of people in the car. He was in the driver's seat and immediately, hit the flashers, pulling over as quickly as possible as his vision blurred substancially.

Ochaco was in the front seat next to him, a seat designated for her due to her motion sickness. Iida, Todoroki, and Bakugo were in the back seat, the blonde bickering at a purposely (and hilariously) silent Todoroki over Iida, who was stuck in the middle of it all.

The car came to a screeching stop on the side of the road and everyone's seatbelts locked them in, a chorus of "woah" following as they did.

Izuku, with shaky hands pulled the parking break to the car, taking his foot off of all the petals before falling into an absence seizure.

"What happened, pukeface?" Bakugo yelled from the backseat, cornered behind the driver's seat and unable to see what was going on.

Ochaco was reaching carefully towards Izuku, lightly shaking his arm and trying to gain his attention, not understanding what was going on.

"I don't know- he's just zoned out he's not answering." She answered, "Deku? Hey, what's wrong?"

A moment later he came back, but he didn't feel well at all. He felt like he was about to vomit, and all the natural light in the car made it hard to see at all. His ears were ringing so loud he couldn't hear.

"He's having a seizure." Iida answered quickly, just as Izuku let out an awkward groan.

Everything smelled horrid and he briefly recognized this as the worst aura he'd ever had. His heart was racing like crazy, but he couldn't focus his thoughts enough to execute asking for help. Some garbled set of vowels fell off his lips instead and feeling of dread set deep in his chest.

"Is it bad?" Todoroki asked from the backseat as Izuku glanced around blindly.

The way the boy's green hair began to shake answered wordlessly. It was bad.

Iida began to direct everyone on what to do, telling Todoroki to time the seizure, Ochaco to move the drinks in the cupholders out of the way so he didn't knock them over, and telling Bakugo to shut up.

Ochaco never stopped offering Izuku comforting words, even though she didn't know whether he could hear her or not. At 3 minutes and 50 seconds Izuku bit his tongue, hard, and blood came flooding down his chin.

"Shoot, shoot, shoot." Ochaco said, reaching to find napkins or something, panicking as his head lulled back and she worried about keeping his airways clear.

"We gotta make sure he doesn't choke." Iida said seriously as Izuku's head lulled back, "Todoroki, how long has it been?"

"It's been four and a half minutes now." He responded, even his usually cold tone threaded with careful worry.

"I'm calling 911." Bakugo said, watching for cars and then carefully opening the car door to make the call outside where he'd be heard better.

"Here, now that Bakugo is out lay his seat back, undo his belt, and turn him to the side.

"We're pretty far off the road let's prop open the door so it's farther from his head." Todoroki said, getting up and out of the vehicle as well, moving around the car to execute their plan.

Ochaco unbuckled and moved the seat back, taking a couple of hits as she moved him to his side as well and Todoroki opened the door.

At 6 minutes of seizing, Izuku's body let go. He vomited up all the blood that had trailed down his throat and lost control of his bladder. It was gross, but everyone was more sad and worried about the boy than anything. The convulsing continued and his eyes stayed white, his pupils rolled back into his skull, unseen.

Ochaco still hadn't stopped offering him comforting words.

At six and a half minutes, the paramedics arrived and administered the boy seizure slowing medication. He did not wake up afterwards and the entire group ubered to the hospital.

----

The following hospital days went by in a blur.

No one knew how Izuku was truly doing, only that he was alive. The first time they were able to see him was 3 days after the initial incident, and when they did, he was barely conscious on a hospital bed, heavily wired up. There seemed to be a wire or tube coming out of every part of him.

An IV in his wrist, a tube up his nose, an oxygen mask over his face, and so many wires attached with sticky dots to his chest underneath his hospital gown.

He could barely lift an arm to wave hello, and certainly couldn't smile to welcome them. He wished he could, but he was barely able to have the straightforward thought enough to identify who was in front of him.

The brain injury he sustained was bad. Bad enough that he continued to have seizures once he was in the hospital, only making his head worse.

Now, Todoroki, Iida, Bakugo, and Ochaco all sat around Izuku's bed, watching as his eyes trailed their faces for a moment before dulling back away to unrecognition. The doctors didn't know anything yet, whether he had amnesia or remembered the incident, and truthfully the only thing Izuku could focus on was how much his head hurt.

None of his other senses were clear. Wierd smells, muffled sounds, and blurry vision all gained way to a pounding headache that never seemed to leave.

Time passed in an unmappable fog, consciousness fading in and out like the tide. He didn't know when he started remembering things, but when he did the faces that stuck were that of his mother, his teacher, and his friends.

He couldn't respond to them. He could barely move, but he remembered every time he would vomit from the severity of his headache now. He remembered half the times a nurse came in to change is IV.

He began to be able to make true eye contact with his friends, the first being Iida, who was talking to him about something or other that happened at school, and Izuku smiled weakly at him, showing that he was listening.

Iida paused for a moment, reached down and took Izuku's hand, squeezing it gently for a moment, "glad to have you back." He said, then continued on with whatever he had been rambling about before.

That was on a better day.

The day after he was the one trying to squeeze Iida's hand as he experienced one of the most grueling headaches ever. He could barely recognize the rest of his friends that day. He was held in the arms of his mother and his best friend was there for him as he sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. It went on for hours, like an inconsolable newborn. No one knew how to help.

When he finally felt at peace, it was when he was nearly unconscious, his head resting on the pillows placed around his bed and one hand in Iida's and the other in his mother's.

The sight of him was horrific. Even though Izuku was sleeping peacefully now, he was pale and skinny and looked ill.

His friends wondered if he would ever get better. If this was the end of it for him, if this episode would leave him permanently disabled, unable to care for himself alone anymore, unable to walk or run or fight anymore.

But with more care and a couple more weeks, he was back on his feet again, excluding a few headaches and close calls for passing out here and there, he was getting back into the swing of things.

And his friends couldn't be happier.
