❄️❄️❄️

Izuku began struggling with insomnia at the end of his third year in middle school. It started out small and seemed to stay that way.

He couldn't fall asleep easily at night. It would take him hours to finally have his brain shut down enough to actually fall asleep. Melatonin got him through the first couple of months pretty easily. Izuku was always a dreamer. This is obvious. He dreamt of being a hero, saving the day, meeting All Might, and pursuing every little imagination far into the future. After meeting All Might, gaining One for All, and getting accepted to UA, he finally thought those dreams were within reach.

But during his first semester at UA, things began to change. His dreams were too in reach. Every night, he had scarily vivid dreams, dreams that sometimes shook him awake, dreams that activated his quirk and put dents in the walls, dreams that made him realize he had a huge crush on a certain bubbly girl in his class.

At first, he didn't mind.

After all, these dreams encouraged him to ask out his first girlfriend, Ochako Ururaka, and boy, if anything was the dream, it was dating her. The first time she tucked into bed next to him and cuddled by his side, he slept better than he had in years.

But after this became routine, Ochako began to understand that when her boyfriend would say, "Oh, I just didn't sleep too well," he meant that he didn't sleep at all. She would fall asleep being spooned by him and wake up the next morning to Izuku looking rough. That is when she finally found out the extremes his insomnia took him to. Some nights he would only sleep a couple of hours, other nights he wouldn't sleep at all.

It was scary, really, but Izuku was used to it. Those days he didn't sleep, he managed to act like everyone else in class. He was as cheery and pep as ever despite the exhaustion that tugged on every part of his body, weighing on his every muscle like a ball and chain.

Unfortunately, issues began to arise in his lack of sleep and vivid dreams.

Izuku began having horrible nightmares after the USJ and training camp incidents. Anytime he could sleep, he had vivid dreams, terrifying nightmares that would force screams from his throat in the dead of night. One time, Ochako nearly got hurt because he woke up and broke his bed frame, unconsciously activating his quirk, fighting off the villains attacking him over and over in his head.

That's when Izuku suggested maybe Ochako should stay the night less often until his dreams subsided. That's when Ochako demanded they finally go to Recovery Girl to get help for his extreme insomnia. That's when Izuku finally agreed to get help for his problem.

They went the day after that nightmare happened. Recovery Girl recommended a sleep study after Izuku expressed that it was like his brain never turned off, not even when he could sleep, thus the vivid dreams.

He did the sleep study.

He took the medicine.

For a couple of days, he could sleep.

Then the cycle started over again.

❄️❄️❄️

"Izuku" Ochako mumbled, rolling over in bed as Izuku fidgeted in the covers next to her, "you awake?"
