The day of Jessica's second dentist appointment had arrived. Taylor had scheduled it for 3pm, thinking the girl could eat dinner after and head to bed if she was in any pain.

Although it was logical it also meant that the teen was worrying about the appointment all day long.

Andrea was at Taylor's house in the morning to see them both before she went away for 3 weeks to visit friends. She noticed Jessica was quieter than normal, but every time she asked the teen what was wrong, Jessica just shrugged – repeating she was fine.

When Jessica moved into the living room to read Taylor turned to her Mum, sighing "she has her dentist appointment this afternoon, remember? I think she is nervous"

Andrea nodded "she'll be fine!" Taylor shrugged "you and I know that – but she's scared. She has to go back next week too, so I hope today goes ok or it'll freak her out even more!"

Lunchtime passed quickly, Taylor expected a battle but Jessica actually asked for a bigger lunch in case she couldn't manage a big dinner. They went out for a walk then went home and got changed quickly before heading off to the dentist. As they pulled up Taylor turned to the teen "are you ready?"

Jessica hesitated "do we really have to? I haven't even been having any pain! Can't we just wait?"

Taylor smiled softly "no because we don't want to wait until you are in pain. I promise it's really not going to be that bad. It'll be over within an hour. We will get you home, you can have some soup and ice cream and we can chill out. OK?"

Jessica nodded, sitting up properly "it is going to hurt a lot though?"

Taylor wrinkled her nose, shaking her head "the injections hurt a bit, but then you're numb. It's just noisy - you can put your headphones in if you want?"

Jessica's eyes widened "no! I want to be able to hear you. You're going to sit right by me aren't you? Like, RIGHT by me?"

Taylor laughed lightly "I'll sit as close as I can. It'll probably be like last time where I am sat by your feet. But I will be there the whole time."

Jessica took a deep breath then nodded "Ok, let's do this." The pair of them hopped out the car and walked inside where they checked in and sat in the waiting room, Jessica holding Taylor's hand in a vice like grip.

After a couple of minutes they were called back, Taylor practically dragged the teen down the corridor and nudged her gently into the chair. Jessica picked at her nails nervously as they began to lower the chair down.

The dentist had another look around "Ok, so I know originally we were going to do two separate appointments but I think we should just do both together. It means you don't have to come back next week – I can see this is very nerve wracking for you."

Taylor spoke up immediately "is there any risk to doing both at the same time?"

The dentist shook his head "Originally I only suggested it because we tend not to numb both sides of the face if possible but it won't be a problem"

Jessica's heart was beating quicker now and Taylor smiled kindly at her, trying to reassure her "Ok, that's fine – let's do that then", although she knew it would be a slightly worse recovery she agreed that bringing the teen back next week would be more difficult if today was painful at all.

The dentist quickly turned around, "we also have your nightguard to fit. Let's check the fit before we do any work, then we will check it once we have done the fillings – make sure it is fitting well."

Jessica swallowed, looking towards Taylor who was still smiling softly at her, she obediently opened her mouth, letting the Dentist fit the lower retainer first – she flinched slightly as it clicked into her mouth. He quickly fitted the top one and had her bite together "Any pain?" Jessica clenched "No, just feels weird" He laughed slightly "Ok great, let's pop them out and I'll get these cavities filled"
