Annabelle
BONNIE WASN'T AT the school by the time I got there. Of course, she didn't answer her phone either. Instead, I searched the entire school for a sign of her or my uncle but there wasn't one. Neither of them were there.
"I can't find them," I informed Elena solemnly, pressing the phone to my ear. "Uncle Nik hasn't seen him yet either, he's been with the Salvatores all day."
"Thanks for trying," Elena said with a sigh.
"I'm going to do a look around the town again," I informed the girl. "I doubt I'll find him, but I'll search anyway."
"Okay," Elena fell silent for a moment before adding, "Call me with an update."
I agreed before hanging up, spending the next two hours scouring the town. Just as I was returning to the house, I got an incoming call from Jeremy.
"Hey, Jer," I greeted, pressing the small device to my ear. "I still haven't found-"
"He's here," Jeremy cut me off. I felt my entire body tense as all the color washed from my skin.
"What?"
"Kol's here to kill me," Jeremy snapped, a crash sounding in the background.
"I'll be there as soon as I can," I informed him, barely getting the words in before he hung off. I broke off in a sprint, dialing Nik's number. It rang three times before he answered. "About time you picked up your phone."
"What's wrong?" Nik asked, hearing the nervous edge in my voice.
"Kol's at Jeremy's house. He's trying to kill him. You told me you'd protect him," I explained hurriedly.
"That's not what I've heard," Nik informed me. "I'm already on my way but Kol claims Elena and Jeremy are trying to kill him."
"We can't let them kill each other," I snapped, pushing myself to pick up the pace.
"Wait for me to get there," Nik ordered as I rounded the corner, finally on their street.
"No," I argued. "I'm here now. I can't let either of them die, Nik. I have to stop this."
"Annabelle, don't-" I dropped my phone on the ground before Nik could convince me not to attempt to stop this. I'd be damned if I didn't at least try.
I practically slammed into the door frame leading into their house, peering into the room. "No!" An ear-piercing scream erupted from me as I watched Jeremy drive a white oak stake in Kol's sizzling body. "No, no, no!" His body erupted into flames as he flung his arms around before collapsing on the floor, becoming no more than ash in seconds.
Jeremy looked up to meet my eyes, an apologetic look settling on his face. "B-"
"Don't," I snapped, tears streaming down my face as I collapsed, arms grabbing me from behind. It was Nik, who looked pissed as he lowered us to the ground. My palms pressed firmly into the ground as I sobbed, eyes locked onto Kol's burning body. "I hate you, Jeremy. I hate you."
