DECHA TOOK A STEP FORWARD.
He walked to the center of the mat, standing across from Kenny. In the background, he could hear the applause and cheers from his fellow teammates.
"Face me," the referee said. "Bow."
Decha and Kenny both turned their bodies slightly, bowing at the referee. "Face each other. Bow."
The two boys bowed at each other before standing up straight. As the referee told them to get ready, Decha took his fighting stance. Kenny stared him directly in the eyes, like he was his prey, and was just waiting for the moment to strike first.
"Fight!"
Kenny launched himself at Decha before he even had the chance to react. Kenny grunted as he jumped and kicked his leg forward. Decha quickly stepped out of the way, narrowly avoiding Kenny's kick. As Decha turned, Kenny wasted no time hooking his arm around to attempt a hit to Decha's face. Decha leaned back, avoiding the path of Kenny's fist. The smaller boy began throwing a series of punches Decha's way, but he was quick to block every single one.
In the midst of trying to block Kenny's punches, Decha was caught off guard by Kenny's foot slamming into his abdomen.
"Point!" the referee called out. "1-0, Payne."
The Cobra Kai students cheered. Kenny walked back to his mark, his eyes narrowing at Decha the entire time. The two boys got back into fighting position. Decha kept his eyes trained on Kenny. He couldn't let him score another point on him.
"Ready? Fight!"
Kenny bounced back and forth on the balls of his feet before he lifted his leg in the air. Decha pushed his leg down and then instantly started to swing punches in his direction. Kenny turned, trying to land another kick to his stomach, but Decha grabbed his leg before he had the chance and pushed Kenny away.
Decha turned his body so that his back was facing Kenny. He lifted his right knee up and then shifted his feet so that his left knee was in the air instead. Decha extended his leg forward forcefully, kicking Kenny in the chest. Kenny stumbled backwards, clutching his chest.
Decha smiled to himself as his teammates cheered behind him.
"Out of bounds," the referee said. "No point."
Decha turned to look at him, confusion written all over his face. "Wait, what? I hit him before he stepped out of bounds!"
"Come on, ref, that's horseshit," Johnny called out. "He made contact in bounds!"
"No point," the referee said, standing by his decision. "Back on the line."
Decha clenched his jaw as he walked back to his side. They got back into fighting position.
