The wind whipped through the quiet streets of the Outer Banks, the chill biting through your jacket as you huddled further into Rafe's side. He noticed instantly, wrapping an arm tighter around your shoulders and pulling you closer. The two of you had decided to take a walk by the water, but neither of you had anticipated just how cold it would get once the sun set.
"I told you to bring a heavier jacket," he teased, his voice low and soft, a smile playing on his lips. You rolled your eyes playfully but leaned into his warmth anyway.
"Yeah, yeah," you mumbled. "I didn't think it'd be this cold."
Rafe stopped walking and turned to face you, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Without warning, he shrugged off his jacket and draped it around your shoulders, leaving him in just his long-sleeve shirt.
"Rafe, you're gonna freeze," you protested, though the warmth from his jacket already made you feel ten times better. He just grinned, shaking his head.
"Nah, I'm fine. Besides," he said, stepping closer, "I can't have my girl getting cold. I'll warm up from this." He slipped his arms around your waist, pulling you flush against him. The cold air seemed to fade away with the way he held you, his hands rubbing up and down your back to generate warmth.
You looked up at him, his blue eyes glinting under the soft moonlight. The way he looked at you always made your heart flutter, like you were the only person in the world that mattered to him.
"Better?" he asked, his voice quieter now, more sincere.
"Much," you whispered, wrapping your arms around his neck. For a moment, neither of you spoke, just swaying gently in the cold evening breeze, surrounded by the quiet of the beach.
Then Rafe leaned down, pressing his forehead against yours, his breath warm on your skin. "I'd do anything to keep you warm, you know that, right?" His words were laced with a tenderness that made your heart swell.
You smiled, lifting your head slightly to kiss him, feeling the soft press of his lips against yours. It wasn't rushed or heated, just gentle—a kiss that spoke of comfort, love, and the promise of warmth in each other's arms.
"I know," you said softly, pulling back to look at him again. "And I'd do the same for you."
Rafe chuckled, pulling you even closer. "Guess I'm never gonna let you go then."
This one-shot captures Rafe's protective and caring side, showing how much he values keeping you close and making sure you're always safe and warm.
