The drive to Tannyhill felt longer than usual, the anticipation building with each passing second. It had been weeks since you last saw Rafe, and you could feel the excitement bubbling up inside of you. The reason for the distance? His dad, Ward Cameron, had been keeping him tied up with endless tasks and responsibilities. But today? Rafe had finally made time for you, and you couldn't wait to see him again.
When you pulled up to the house, your heart raced. You hadn't even knocked before the front door swung open, and there he was—Rafe, standing in the doorway, his eyes lighting up as soon as he saw you.
"Finally," he breathed, his voice a mix of relief and excitement. He stepped forward, and before you could even react, he pulled you into a tight hug, burying his face in your neck. "I missed you so much."
You couldn't help but smile as you wrapped your arms around him. "I missed you too, Rafe. This is ridiculous. You've been avoiding me for weeks."
He pulled back just enough to look you in the eyes, his hands resting on your waist. "It wasn't on purpose, you know that. My dad's been riding me non-stop. But now you're here, and I don't have to think about any of that."
You playfully rolled your eyes. "Well, you better not forget about me again, or I'll come knock on your door every day until you remember how good it feels to see me."
Rafe grinned, pulling you back into him. "Promise?"
"Promise," you teased, planting a quick kiss on his cheek. "But only if you let me make up for all the lost time."
"Deal," he said, pressing a soft kiss to your lips before pulling you inside.
The moment you stepped into the house, everything felt like it clicked back into place. The chaos of life outside faded, and it was just the two of you—laughing, talking, and catching up like no time had passed at all.
"I swear, if you say you missed me one more time, I'm going to have to start charging you," you teased, nudging him with your elbow as you both sat down on the couch.
"Worth it," Rafe shot back with a wink. "You've been on my mind non-stop, babe. I'm just glad we can finally hang out."
You grinned, feeling a warmth spread through you. "You know, I could've been having fun without you, but I guess I've got a soft spot for you."
He laughed, pulling you closer until you were practically in his lap. "Yeah, I know you do. And I've got one for you, too."
You looked up at him, your heart swelling with affection. "I've been thinking about us lately," you said, your voice suddenly softer, more serious.
Rafe raised an eyebrow, his hands brushing a strand of hair from your face. "Yeah? What about?"
"Well," you started, shifting a little so you were looking directly at him, "you know how we always joke about being together forever?"
He nodded, his expression growing more serious as well. "Yeah. I'm not really joking, though."
Your heart skipped a beat at the sincerity in his voice. "Me neither," you said, reaching for his hand. "I know we're still young, but I can't imagine being with anyone else. I want a future with you, Rafe. Even with all the craziness in our lives."
Rafe's fingers tightened around yours, and he pulled you closer, resting his forehead against yours. "I want the same thing, love. I know I've got a lot of stuff to figure out, especially with my dad and all the other bullshit, but I know one thing for sure: I want you by my side. You make everything easier."
You smiled, the weight of his words settling in your chest. "I know we'll have tough times. I know things won't always be perfect. But I think as long as we have each other, we'll figure it out."
He kissed your forehead, his lips lingering there. "We'll always have each other. That's a promise."
You both sat there for a while, lost in the quiet comfort of each other's company. But it wasn't just the present moment that you both cherished—it was the future, the one that was slowly but surely starting to take shape in your hearts.
And for the first time in a long time, Rafe felt like he could breathe. The weight of the world wasn't on his shoulders as long as he had you beside him.
"So," you said after a long silence, breaking the moment with a playful grin, "now that we've talked about our future, can we talk about getting pizza or something? I'm starving."
Rafe laughed, his usual smirk returning. "You're lucky you're cute. But yeah, let's order pizza. And then we'll do whatever you want—no work, no distractions. Just us."
You leaned in to kiss him, your heart full, knowing that no matter what came next, you were exactly where you needed to be.
