A/N: THE SONG IS ABOVE!!!!

The house felt quieter than usual, the silence settling over everything like a heavy fog. You were on the couch, staring at the empty space in front of you, trying to keep yourself from feeling overwhelmed by the weight of it all. Rafe had been distant for weeks now, and it felt like you were both living in different worlds. Every moment that used to feel comfortable and familiar now felt awkward, like you were just going through the motions.

It wasn't supposed to be like this. You had promised forever, didn't you? But now, forever felt like it was slipping away, and neither of you knew how to stop it. You missed the way it used to be—the laughter, the little arguments that never lasted long, the way everything felt so easy. And now, every word seemed to be laced with tension, every look heavy with unspoken thoughts.

You ran a hand over your face, trying to keep your tears at bay. The corner of the room caught your eye. A cracked plate from one of your biggest fights, a stupid thing to fight about but somehow it had ended up like that—broken pieces scattered on the floor, a reminder of what had been. You used to get frustrated, you used to fight, but then you would make up, fix things, and it felt right again. But now? Now, it felt like you were both too afraid to make up, too afraid to really try again. It felt like both of you were slowly giving up, one small piece at a time.

The door opened, and the sound of Rafe's footsteps broke you from your thoughts. You glanced up, and your heart sank when you saw him. He had his bag in hand, but he didn't even look your way. His gaze was locked somewhere else, as though he couldn't even bear to face you.

"Hey," you said quietly, trying to make your voice sound casual, but the words came out weak. You couldn't help it. You missed him so much.

Rafe didn't respond right away. He just dropped his bag by the door and walked past you without even a glance in your direction. That was when you knew something was wrong. He wasn't even pretending to be interested in you, not anymore.

You stood up, your voice a little shakier than you intended. "Rafe, are you okay?"

He didn't turn around right away. When he did, his expression was flat, almost empty. "Yeah, fine. Same as always."

"Same as always?" you repeated, unable to hide the disbelief in your voice. "You don't even seem like you care anymore. You don't even look at me the same."

Rafe's jaw tightened, and for a moment, you thought he was going to snap. But then his shoulders slumped, and he ran a hand through his hair, the frustration clear on his face. "I don't know what you want me to say," he muttered, stepping further into the room but not looking at you. "It's complicated."

"Complicated?" Your frustration boiled over, but you kept your voice steady, even though your heart felt like it was shattering. "Rafe, we're falling apart and you don't even want to talk about it. We're just pretending everything's fine, but it's not. And I... I don't know what to do anymore."

He sighed, the sound heavy in the air. "I'm sorry, okay? I didn't want this. I didn't want us to end up like this."

"You didn't want it?" The bitterness in your tone surprised you, but it was the truth. "Then why are you letting it happen? Why are you just sitting there and watching it fall apart? We're not even fighting for it anymore. I miss fighting with you. I miss when we fought and it meant something. Now it's like... we don't even care enough to argue."

Rafe's face softened for a moment, but it quickly hardened again. "It's not that simple. I just—I'm lost right now. I don't know what to do. Everything's different, and I'm not sure how to fix it."

"Well, maybe it's because we're not even trying to fix it," you said, your voice cracking with the weight of your words. "I miss when we used to break dishes in your old apartment when we fought. Yeah, it was messy, but at least it felt like we were still connected, still fighting for each other. Now, it's just... silence. Cold, empty silence."

Rafe took a step toward you, his face softening for the first time in a while. "I didn't want it to be like this," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I never wanted to hurt you."

You swallowed hard, trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill over. "But you are hurting me. We're both hurting each other, and I don't know how to fix it anymore. I just want us back, Rafe. I want things to go back to how they were. When it was easy, when we knew how to fight and make up and move on."

Rafe reached out, as if he was going to touch you, but then he pulled his hand back like he wasn't sure if you'd let him. "I don't know how to make it better," he admitted, his voice filled with a vulnerability that made your chest ache. "I don't want to lose you. I don't want to lose us."

You closed your eyes, trying to keep the tears from falling. "But it feels like we already have. Every corner of this house is haunted by what we've said, by the things we've done to each other. I just—how do we even fix it when it feels like everything is broken?"

"I don't know," Rafe whispered, his voice cracking. "But I still love you. I promise. I never stopped."

Your heart clenched. You tried to hold it together, but the tears finally came, streaming down your face. "I love you too. But I don't know if love is enough anymore. I don't know if it can fix everything that's been broken between us."

Rafe stepped forward again, this time not hesitating to gently cup your face in his hands. His thumb traced the tears that were falling, and his eyes were filled with something raw, something real. "We can fix this," he said softly, his voice low and steady. "I swear we can. I'm sorry for everything, for making you feel like I'm not trying."

"I'm sorry too," you whispered, your voice thick with emotion. "I'm sorry for pushing you away when all I want is to be close to you again. I want to fix this too, but I don't know how."

Rafe pulled you into his arms, holding you tightly as though he was afraid you might slip away. "I miss you," he murmured into your hair. "I miss us. I'm sorry."

You clung to him, feeling the warmth of his embrace as you finally let yourself cry. "I miss you too," you whispered. "I just want us back. I want to fix this."

"I swear we will," Rafe promised, his voice full of resolve. "We will. I won't let us fall apart. I'll do whatever it takes."
