It was a perfect Saturday afternoon at Rafe's house. The sun was shining, the music was loud, and the backyard was filled with laughter. You and Rafe had invited some of your closest friends over: Topper, Sarah, Kelce, and his girlfriend, who were all lounging around, enjoying the carefree day. You had all been outside for hours, playing games, joking around, and just basking in the warmth of the day.

You had been having fun, laughing along with everyone, but slowly, something started to change. Your energy, which had been high at the start of the day, began to dip. The constant chatter and movement, the noise of the games, and the upbeat atmosphere were starting to feel a little overwhelming. You tried to push through it, but your body and mind were clearly signaling that it was time to recharge.

You quietly stepped away from the group, moving to the edge of the yard where there was a shady tree and a bench. You needed a quiet moment, a few minutes to yourself before you felt like you'd crash. As you sat on the bench, leaning back and closing your eyes for a moment, you heard footsteps behind you.

You smiled softly when you felt Rafe's presence before you saw him. "You okay, babe?" he asked gently, sitting down beside you and giving your hand a soft squeeze.

"Yeah," you sighed, letting out a little laugh. "Just... I think I need a break. I'm starting to feel a little drained." You leaned your head on his shoulder, the cool shade of the tree offering a bit of relief.

Rafe's hand brushed your hair back, his voice soft as he spoke. "I get it. It's been a busy day. Do you wanna go inside for a bit and relax?"

You shook your head, not wanting to leave the others completely. "No, I just need a moment here. Just you and me. It's been a lot, you know?"

Rafe nodded, his arm sliding around your shoulders to pull you closer. "I got you. Just take a deep breath, we're in no rush. I'll be right here."

You let out a long breath, feeling the tension in your body start to ease. Rafe was always good at making you feel safe, especially when you were overwhelmed. His calm presence was the perfect balance to your scattered energy. You closed your eyes again, soaking in the peace of the moment, feeling his warmth next to you.

After a few moments of silence, you shifted so you were facing him, leaning your forehead against his. "I'm sorry," you murmured, your voice soft. "I know I probably seem like a buzzkill today."

Rafe's fingers gently stroked your cheek, his expression completely understanding. "Don't be silly, babe. You're not a buzzkill at all. We all need breaks. I'm glad you're taking care of yourself."

You smiled, relieved that he didn't mind. "Thanks. I just needed some quiet. And you."

His smile was warm and comforting. "I'm glad to be the one you want with you. You know, we don't need to do anything crazy today. I'm happy just being here with you."

"I like that," you whispered, your lips curving into a soft smile. "I like just being here with you too."

Rafe chuckled softly, his thumb brushing over your hand. "We can hang out with the others in a bit. But right now, it's just you and me, okay? No pressure."

You nodded, closing your eyes again as you settled against him. The sound of laughter from the others drifted in the background, but it felt far away now. It didn't matter. All that mattered was this moment, just the two of you, your energy slowly coming back in the peaceful stillness of the afternoon.

Minutes passed, and you felt your exhaustion melt away little by little. Rafe's steady breathing, the way his fingers gently traced your arm, and his soft words of reassurance were the perfect antidote to the chaos of the day. You could feel your body relaxing against him, your mind quieting.

Eventually, you sat up a little, looking at him with a small smile. "I feel better now. Thanks for giving me this time."

"No problem at all, love," Rafe said, brushing a strand of hair out of your face. "Sometimes we just need a moment to recharge. You're good now?"

"Yeah, much better," you replied, grinning. "And, you know, I might be ready to go back out there now. Maybe I'll actually beat you at that cornhole game this time."

Rafe raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a playful smirk. "Oh, so that's what this is about, huh? You were just taking a break so you could come back and destroy me?"

You giggled, nodding. "Maybe. But, I mean, I have to keep my title as the reigning champion of everything, right?"

Rafe laughed, pulling you into a quick hug. "You're lucky I love you, or I'd never let you get away with that."

You leaned into him, basking in the comfort of his embrace. "Well, I'm lucky you do love me. Now let's go back out there and show them who's boss."

Hand in hand, you both stood up and walked back toward the others, your energy restored, your smile wide, and your heart full. As you rejoined the group, you could feel the familiar lightness creeping back into your step. The laughter and the noise didn't seem so overwhelming anymore. In fact, it felt comforting. Rafe, with his reassuring presence, had helped you find your balance again.

As you made your way back to the game, you noticed Sarah giving you a curious look. "Everything okay?" she asked, a knowing smile on her face.

You gave her a small nod, giving Rafe's hand a gentle squeeze. "Yeah, just needed a minute to recharge," you said with a grin. "But I'm back in action now. Let's see who's really the cornhole champion around here."

Topper laughed, stretching out his arms dramatically. "Oh, you're in for it now. We've been practicing, you know."

Rafe leaned in close to you, his voice teasing. "Ready to kick some butt?"

You smirked, matching his energy. "Always. You better get out of the way, because this champion is back."

The game began, and the atmosphere shifted to competitive fun. Every toss of the beanbag was filled with laughter and friendly banter. You felt lighter, more present, and ready to take on the challenge. Rafe stayed close, his presence grounding you, but also playful as he made sure to cheer you on — and, of course, give you the occasional teasing nudge when you missed.

By the time the game ended, you hadn't just recharged; you'd found your groove again. You were laughing, surrounded by your closest friends, and, most importantly, you felt like yourself again.

And, as you basked in the joy of the moment, Rafe leaned in one more time, his voice soft as he spoke against your ear, "See? You just needed a little rest. I'm so proud of you."

You smiled, looking up at him, feeling content. "Thanks, babe. You always know just what I need."
