The warm evening breeze rustled through the trees as you sat beside Rafe on the porch, legs swinging playfully off the edge of the wooden steps. The sun was beginning to set, casting an orange hue over the horizon. You were curled up next to him, your head resting on his shoulder, the comfort of his presence grounding you.
"Rafe," you said, poking him in the ribs with a mischievous grin. "Bet I can make you laugh."
He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused but trying to hide it. "Oh, really? And how do you plan on doing that?"
You shifted closer, your lips curving into a playful smile. "Well," you started dramatically, "first, I need to tell you a secret."
He turned his head to look at you, his eyes warm and attentive. "What's the secret, love?"
You leaned in closer, your breath tickling his ear. "I'm secretly a world-class comedian. You just didn't know."
Rafe's lips quirked into a smirk, his gaze flicking to you with affection. "Oh, you are, huh?"
Without warning, you grabbed a nearby empty can and began balancing it on your head like it was a crown. You giggled, watching him shake his head, his lips curving into a smile despite himself.
"Look at me, I'm the queen of the world!" you declared dramatically, wiggling in place. "Bow down, peasants!"
Rafe chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief. "You're crazy, you know that?"
"I'm not crazy," you protested, sticking your tongue out at him playfully. "I'm just...extraordinarily entertaining."
Rafe laughed fully now, the sound deep and genuine. His arm wrapped around you, pulling you closer. "You're unbelievable, you know that?"
"Hey, that's why you love me," you said, a teasing glint in your eyes as you snuggled into his chest.
"Yeah, that's why," he agreed, though his voice was soft, affectionate. He kissed the top of your head. "You make everything feel so much more fun."
"Well, someone has to make you stop being such a grump," you teased, nudging him.
He chuckled, shaking his head again as he looked at you with such warmth. "You're right. I don't know what I'd do without you, my crazy little girlfriend."
You beamed up at him, satisfied with your work. "Now, I'll make you a deal. I promise to stop being extra if you promise to always laugh at my jokes."
Rafe smiled down at you. "Deal, but only because I can't resist you, love."
You giggled, content in the moment, feeling his love wash over you like the sunset that bathed the world in its golden glow. "Good. Because you're stuck with me now."
