It was supposed to be a chill evening at Rafe's house. The plan was simple: a movie marathon, snacks, and a blanket big enough for two. You'd even worn your coziest hoodie, fully prepared for a night of relaxing and teasing Rafe about his terrible movie choices.

But of course, Rafe couldn't stick to the plan.

"You're gonna love this," Rafe said, holding up a bag of marshmallows with an almost maniacal grin.

You squinted at him from the couch, where you were already wrapped in the blanket. "Why do you have that face? That's your 'I'm about to do something dumb' face."

He scoffed, tossing the marshmallows onto the coffee table and heading toward the kitchen. "First of all, rude. Second, I have an idea to make this night more... fun."

You rolled your eyes but couldn't help smiling. "Oh no. What now?"

He emerged from the kitchen holding a pack of skewers and a small blowtorch.

"Rafe!" you yelped, sitting up straight. "Why do you have a blowtorch?"

"For s'mores!" he said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

You stared at him, part amused, part horrified. "We have a fireplace! Why do you need that?"

He shrugged, already unwrapping the marshmallows. "Fireplace takes too long. This is faster."

"And more dangerous," you muttered, but you stayed put, curious to see where this was going.

Rafe skewered a marshmallow and held it in front of the blowtorch, igniting the flame with a dramatic flourish. "See? Perfectly safe."

The marshmallow instantly caught fire, turning into a blackened mess within seconds.

"Perfectly safe, huh?" you teased, laughing as he waved the skewer around, trying to blow out the flames.

"Okay, okay, that was a test run," he said, grinning sheepishly as he grabbed another marshmallow.

"Let me try," you said, hopping off the couch and grabbing a skewer.

He raised an eyebrow, holding out the blowtorch like it was a sacred artifact. "You sure? This is high-stakes stuff."

"Please," you said, rolling your eyes. "I've seen you light candles with this thing. I think I can handle it."

You took the blowtorch, carefully holding the marshmallow over the flame. It toasted perfectly golden brown, the way you liked it.

"Show-off," Rafe muttered, watching you assemble your s'more.

You smirked, biting into it with exaggerated satisfaction. "Mmm, perfect. Better than yours."

Rafe leaned closer, his lips quirking into a playful grin. "Oh, you're gonna regret that, baby."

Before you could react, he swiped a marshmallow and smeared it across your cheek.

"Rafe!" you shrieked, laughing as you grabbed another marshmallow to retaliate.

Within seconds, it was full-on war. Marshmallows flew across the living room, Rafe ducking behind the couch as you lobbed one at his head. He popped up, laughing uncontrollably, and hit you square in the chest with a handful of mini marshmallows.

"Truce!" you called, holding up your hands when you ran out of ammunition.

Rafe sauntered over, still grinning like a kid. "Truce, huh? Only if you admit I'm the superior s'more maker."

"Never," you said, crossing your arms.

He lunged forward, wrapping his arms around you and tackling you back onto the couch. You both dissolved into laughter as he pinned your wrists above your head, his face inches from yours.

"Say it," he demanded, his tone teasing.

"Never!" you repeated, squirming under his grip.

He leaned down, brushing his nose against yours. "Say it, or I'll kiss you until you can't breathe."

You raised an eyebrow, feigning defiance. "That's supposed to be a threat?"

Rafe laughed, his lips capturing yours in a soft, lingering kiss that made your heart flutter. When he finally pulled back, his blue eyes sparkled with mischief.

"Fine," you said, breathless. "You're the superior s'more maker."

"Damn right," he said, releasing your wrists and flopping onto the couch beside you.

The two of you lay there, catching your breath amidst the mess of marshmallows and skewers.

"Next time," you said, poking his side, "we're just using the fireplace."

"Next time," he agreed, pulling you into his arms. "But admit it—you had fun."

You smiled, resting your head on his chest. "Yeah, I did."

As the movie played in the background, you couldn't help but think that nights with Rafe were never what you expected—but they were always better.
