The house was quiet, save for the distant hum of the air conditioner and the faint sound of waves crashing against the shore. It had been a long day—one of those days where time seemed to stretch out longer than necessary. But the moment you heard the familiar sound of Rafe's truck pulling into the driveway, a wave of relief washed over you.
You'd missed him.
You weren't sure if it was his confidence, his calm demeanor, or just the way he made everything feel a little easier. But, whatever it was, he had this effect on you that made the chaos of life seem less overwhelming.
As the door opened, Rafe stepped inside, tossing his keys into the bowl by the door. He glanced over at you, his eyes lighting up when he saw you sitting on the couch.
"There she is," he said, a lazy grin spreading across his face. He kicked off his shoes and dropped down beside you, pulling you into his arms almost instinctively.
"Hey, you." You smiled, letting yourself melt into his embrace.
"You've been good today?" he asked, his voice soft as he stroked your hair.
"Yeah," you said, sighing contently. "Just waiting for you to get home. It's been a quiet day."
He chuckled, leaning back against the couch and pulling you with him, making sure you were tucked under his arm. "Well, I'm here now. And you're all I need for the rest of the day."
You laughed lightly, propping yourself up on his chest to look at him. "You're cheesy."
"I know, but it's true." He grinned at you, his hand resting on your back, tracing small patterns along your skin.
The warmth of his presence and the comfort of his touch made everything feel right again. You didn't need grand gestures or loud promises. Just moments like this—quiet, simple, and filled with all the love you both needed.
"So," you said after a pause, feeling playful, "what are we doing tonight?"
Rafe raised an eyebrow, glancing down at you. "I was thinking we could do whatever you want, my love. You wanna binge some shows? Order pizza?"
"Mmm, sounds perfect," you said, snuggling into his side. "But first, I just want to stay like this for a while."
"Of course," he replied easily, his fingers running through your hair. "No rush. You know, this is my favorite part of the day—coming home to you."
Your heart fluttered at his words, and you looked up at him, your eyes meeting his with a soft smile. "I'm glad you're home, Rafe. This is my favorite part too."
And with that, you both settled into the quiet of the night, surrounded by the warmth of each other's presence, content in the simplicity of being together.
