The soft hum of the fan was the only sound that filled the room as you lay tucked against Rafe, his warmth surrounding you. His arm was draped lazily across your waist, and his steady breathing was a soothing rhythm that you could rely on. It was one of those nights where everything felt perfect—quiet, peaceful, and safe. You smiled softly as you snuggled into him, your fingers playing with the hem of his shirt, still feeling the remnants of your earlier laughter. The calm of the moment made you feel like you were floating.

But as the night deepened, the tranquility shifted.

Your breathing began to change, slow at first, then shallow, as a familiar sense of unease crept up from the back of your mind. Your body tensed without you even realizing it, and your eyelids fluttered restlessly, trapped in the tangled web of a nightmare you couldn't escape.

You gasped quietly, your chest rising in a sudden panic. The dream was vivid—too real, the shadows closing in, the voices screaming at you. You tried to scream, but no sound came out. You tried to move, but your limbs were paralyzed. The weight of it all pressed down on you, dragging you deeper into the darkness.

Rafe stirred beside you, sensing the change in your body, but you didn't notice—too lost in the nightmare to hear him whispering your name.

"Hey," he murmured softly, his voice laced with concern. "Love, wake up."

But you didn't wake. Instead, your body jerked violently, your breath coming in short, panicked bursts. Tears started to prick at the corners of your eyes, and the nightmare's grip tightened.

Rafe's hand found your shoulder, shaking you gently. "Baby, wake up," he coaxed, his voice now full of urgency. "You're okay. It's just a dream."

But the words barely reached you. In your mind, the world was still crumbling, and you were helpless to stop it.

"Rafe..." you whimpered, your voice broken and weak, still lost in the dream. You could feel the suffocating weight of fear, but you couldn't break free from it. "Please..."

Suddenly, Rafe was no longer just a voice in your nightmare. His arms wrapped around you, pulling you close, and his strong hands cupped your face, tilting it gently so you had no choice but to look into his eyes.

"Look at me, love," he said softly, his thumb brushing away a stray tear. "I'm right here. It's just a nightmare. You're safe, I promise."

His calm voice, warm and steady, finally pierced through the fog of your dream. You blinked rapidly, trying to focus on his face, trying to remind yourself where you were.

Rafe's forehead rested against yours, his hands tracing soothing patterns on your back. "I'm not going anywhere, okay? You're safe with me."

You hiccuped a small sob, the last remnants of the nightmare fading slowly. His steady presence grounded you, his touch reassuring you that the shadows you feared couldn't reach you when he was around.

"It's okay," he whispered again, brushing your hair back from your face. "You're okay. I'm right here, my love."

Your breathing began to slow as his words sank in, your body unwinding from the tension. You still felt the heaviness in your chest, the lingering remnants of fear, but Rafe's embrace was a balm that started to soothe the wounds the nightmare had left behind.

You clung to him tighter, still shaken, still fragile, but no longer lost. "I'm sorry," you whispered, feeling embarrassed for waking him up with your panic.

Rafe tightened his arms around you, pulling you even closer. "Hey, don't apologize," he said softly, his voice full of affection. "I'm here for you, always. You don't have to be sorry for that."

You nestled your head against his chest, the steady beat of his heart a rhythmic reminder that you were here, with him. "Thank you," you murmured, closing your eyes, feeling the remnants of the nightmare start to fade completely as you focused on his warmth and safety.

Rafe's fingers gently traced your back, rubbing soothing circles. "I'll always be here when you need me, love," he whispered, his voice low and protective. "You're not alone."

You felt your body relax fully now, the warmth of his embrace pushing away the last shadows of the nightmare. "I know," you whispered, already half-drifting back to sleep in the comfort of his arms. "I love you."

Rafe smiled softly, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. "Love you too, baby. Always."

And with that, you finally let go of the remnants of the nightmare, feeling safe and loved in his arms as you drifted back into peaceful sleep, knowing that no matter what happened, you would always have him by your side.
