A/N: This imagine is based on the song above. I'll start doing that now if I base the imagines on songs so you guys could know what song it is.
The world felt heavy tonight, a weight that you couldn't shake, no matter how hard you tried. It wasn't one specific thing, but everything had built up, each pressure adding to the burden until it all felt too much to carry. You had been quiet for hours, sitting on the edge of your bed, your fingers tugging at the hem of your sleeve as you tried to push back the overwhelming emotions.
Rafe hadn't missed it, though. He always noticed when something was off with you, even when you didn't say a word. He'd been quiet too, but his eyes were constantly on you, scanning you like he was trying to figure out what had broken you tonight.
When he couldn't stand it any longer, he finally approached, sitting down beside you. His presence was warm, steady, and it instantly made the cold emptiness you were feeling feel a little less suffocating.
"You good?" he asked softly, his voice always carrying a softness only for you.
You shook your head, not trusting yourself to speak without the lump in your throat betraying you. He reached over, gently pulling you into his arms, wrapping you in the kind of embrace that felt like he was trying to shield you from everything.
"I'm sorry," you whispered, your voice barely above a breath. "I just... everything feels too much sometimes."
Rafe didn't respond with words right away. Instead, he just held you tighter, his hand rubbing slow circles on your back as he let you process whatever was happening inside your head. He knew you well enough to know that sometimes, you just needed him to be there. No words. No pressure. Just him, quietly offering you his strength.
After a long moment, he pulled back slightly, his hands cupping your face so he could look you in the eyes. "You don't have to apologize, love. I'm here. Always."
Your eyes stung with the beginnings of tears, and you couldn't hold back the shaky breath that escaped you. "I don't know what I'm doing anymore. I don't feel good enough for anyone, for you. You deserve someone who's... better."
Rafe's expression softened, and for the first time, you saw the vulnerability in his eyes, the part of him that was never seen by anyone else. He shook his head slowly, as if the very thought was impossible to him.
"Every word I've said, you know I'll always mean it," he said quietly, his voice firm but gentle. "It's the world to me that you're in my life. I don't care about anything else. You are everything I need."
Your breath caught at his words, the sincerity in them wrapping around you like a warm blanket. "But I'm not perfect, Rafe," you whispered, your voice trembling. "I have all this baggage, and I don't want to bring it to you."
Rafe's thumb brushed against your cheek, wiping away the first tear that had escaped. His eyes never left yours as he spoke again, each word deliberate, like he was making sure you could hear the truth in them.
"You don't have to be perfect for me. Hell, I'm not perfect. We don't need to be perfect. But I need you. All of you. Your baggage, your scars, your silence. It's all a part of you. And that's what I want. That's what I've always wanted."
You sniffled, blinking rapidly to keep more tears from spilling over, but they came anyway. Rafe's hand went to the back of your head, pulling you gently toward him, his lips brushing your forehead in the most tender way. He held you like that, your head tucked into his chest as he pressed soft kisses to your hair, letting you cry freely.
"I'm here," he whispered against your skin, his voice a constant reminder that he would never leave. "I'll always be here for you. You don't have to hide from me, not ever."
Your hands fisted the fabric of his shirt, holding onto him like he was your anchor in a storm. "I don't deserve you," you muttered, your voice muffled by his chest. "I don't know why you put up with me."
Rafe pulled back just enough to look at you, his hands cupping your face again, his gaze searching yours. "Don't say that," he whispered, his thumb brushing over your bottom lip. "You're everything I could ever want. And I'll never get tired of telling you that."
You shook your head, tears falling freely now, but they weren't as heavy as before. Something about Rafe's words, his presence, made the darkness feel a little less all-encompassing. You let out a soft, shaky laugh, still overwhelmed but feeling like you could finally breathe a little easier.
"I'm sorry for being a mess," you said, half-sincere, half-amused.
He smiled, his thumb wiping away more tears, his voice soft but steady as he responded. "It's not a mess. It's just you. And I love you, messes and all."
Your chest tightened at the words, and you realized that, for all your self-doubt, Rafe had always seen you for exactly who you were. He didn't need you to be perfect, didn't need you to have it all together. He just needed you. And that, in itself, was enough.
You wiped your eyes, letting out a breath that was more relieved than anything else. "I love you too, Rafe," you whispered, your voice quiet but full of sincerity.
Rafe smiled softly, leaning in to kiss you gently. "Good," he whispered against your lips. "Because that's all I'll ever need to hear."
The weight in your chest wasn't gone, not completely. But with Rafe there, holding you, promising that he was never going to leave you, it felt a little easier to carry.
And maybe, just maybe, you could finally start to believe that you were enough. For him. For yourself.
