The sun had just begun to dip behind the horizon, casting an orange glow across the beach as the sound of the waves gently rolled in. You sat on the warm sand, legs tucked under you, watching the colors dance across the sky. The evening had a calmness to it, but your mind was elsewhere—on Rafe.
You had always loved moments like this. The quiet, the peace, but mostly, the moments you shared with him. Rafe had this way of making every second feel like it was worth living for. When he was around, everything else just seemed to fade into the background, leaving only the two of you in your little bubble of comfort.
You felt his presence before you even saw him. A rustle of the sand, the unmistakable sound of his boots scraping the shore. You didn't need to turn around to know it was him—his scent, a mix of saltwater and something uniquely him, filled the air around you.
"Hey, love," he said, his voice low, warm, and familiar. You didn't look at him at first, just kept your eyes on the horizon, but his words tugged at your heart in a way that made it impossible to stay distant.
"Hey," you responded softly, a smile tugging at your lips as you finally turned to face him. His face was illuminated by the fading light of the sun, a soft golden glow that made his features even more striking. There was something about the way he looked at you in moments like this, as if the entire universe had aligned just to bring you two together.
He sat down beside you, the sand shifting under his weight as he stretched his legs out and settled close to you. His arm instinctively wrapped around your shoulders, pulling you in, your body fitting perfectly against his as if you were made for each other.
"I've always loved this beach," you murmured, resting your head against his shoulder. "It feels like time stands still here. Like everything's just... peaceful."
Rafe nodded, his eyes tracing the waves as they crashed against the shore. "Yeah. It's my favourite place. But I think, right now, you're my favourite thing," he said, his tone quiet but filled with sincerity. "Being here with you, feeling the sun on our skin... this is what I need."
You looked up at him, your heart swelling at the depth in his words. Rafe Cameron wasn't one to express himself like this often, and when he did, it was raw and real. It was moments like these that made you fall in love with him all over again. You always knew that the way he loved you was his own, a bit rough around the edges but full of strength and warmth.
"You're perfect, you know that?" you whispered, the words escaping before you could stop them. "You make everything better just by being here."
Rafe's smile was small but genuine, his eyes softening as he leaned down to kiss the top of your head. "You say that like you don't make my life better every damn day," he teased lightly, but there was no hiding the affection in his voice.
You both sat there for a while, just listening to the gentle sounds of the ocean and feeling the cool breeze brush against your skin. There was something comforting about the silence between you—something that felt deeper than words could capture.
"Do you ever think about forever?" he asked after a while, breaking the quiet. His voice was almost hesitant, like he wasn't sure whether to bring up the topic. But when it came to you, he wasn't afraid to be vulnerable.
"Yeah, sometimes," you replied, looking at him with a soft smile. "I think about it a lot, actually. I think about what forever would be like with you."
Rafe's hand found yours, his fingers lacing with yours in a familiar, comforting gesture. "What do you think it'll be like?" he asked, his thumb gently rubbing the back of your hand.
You thought about it for a moment, feeling the weight of the question. "I think it'll be... full of moments like this. Quiet moments where we don't need to say much, just knowing that we're here with each other. It'll be a life where we're always looking out for each other, even when the world around us doesn't make sense."
He smiled at your words, pulling you in even closer. "That sounds perfect," he said softly, his voice full of certainty. "I want that too, more than anything. I don't need anything else, just you."
You rested your head back against his shoulder, feeling the steady rise and fall of his chest as he wrapped both arms around you now. "You're all I need too, Rafe," you whispered. "Just you, always."
Rafe chuckled, his breath warm against your ear. "I know," he said, his voice full of affection. "I know I'm not perfect, but I'll try every day to be the man you deserve."
"You already are," you replied without hesitation. "You're perfect for me."
The sun had finally set, and the sky was now a deep purple, dotted with the first stars of the evening. The world felt still, but there was a gentle energy in the air—a sense of something lasting, something real.
Rafe turned to face you, his expression soft, eyes locked onto yours with an intensity that made your heart race. "You know, you're my most favourite thing, too. All this," he gestured to the beach, "it's nice. But you? You're what makes everything feel right."
You reached up, cupping his face in your hands as you gazed into his eyes. "I love you, Rafe," you whispered.
A smile spread across his face, and for a brief moment, you saw something in his eyes—a softness, a vulnerability—that he didn't often let others see. "I love you too, my love," he said, his voice low and sincere.
For the rest of the night, the two of you stayed there, the quiet of the evening wrapping around you like a blanket. You didn't need to speak much more; the simple fact that you were together, here, in this moment, was enough.
And as you sat there, tucked safely in his arms, with the ocean waves crashing softly in the background, you realized that no matter where life took you, this—Rafe, your love, your most favourite thing—was all you needed to feel at home.
