It was a quiet Friday night at the house you shared with Rafe. His family was away for the weekend, and Rafe had been adamant about spending uninterrupted time with you. As usual, what was supposed to be a "relaxing night" was quickly turning into something more... spirited, courtesy of Rafe Cameron's inability to sit still for too long.
You were sprawled out on the couch in one of his oversized hoodies, scrolling absentmindedly on your phone, while Rafe, determined as ever, paced in the kitchen with a menu in hand. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, showing off his toned forearms, and the way he kept muttering under his breath made you laugh softly to yourself.
"Babe, are you really turning dinner into a life-altering decision?" you called out teasingly.
Rafe shot you a mock-annoyed glance over his shoulder. "It is a life-altering decision. You're always complaining about how I don't think outside the box with food."
You set your phone down, crossing your legs on the couch. "All I said was that pizza for the third time this week isn't exactly gourmet dining. But don't stress—surprise me."
He smirked, shaking his head. "You're impossible to please."
"Not true," you said, resting your chin in your hand. "I'm very easy to please. I just like watching you work yourself into a frenzy over takeout."
Rafe sighed dramatically before finally making his decision. He placed the order and joined you on the couch, plopping down beside you. His arm immediately found its way around your shoulders as he pulled you closer.
"You're lucky you're cute," he said, kissing the top of your head.
You grinned. "You say that as if you wouldn't do this for me anyway."
About thirty minutes later, the doorbell rang. Rafe shot up like a kid on Christmas morning. "Stay there," he called, heading to the door.
When he returned, he had his arms full of takeout bags and a triumphant look on his face. "Prepare to have your mind blown," he said.
You leaned forward, curious, as he began unpacking containers. "Thai food?" you said, your face lighting up. "Wait—you actually remembered I've been craving this?"
He scoffed, looking offended. "Of course, I remembered. What kind of boyfriend do you think I am?"
"The forgetful kind," you joked.
He smirked and flicked a piece of rice at you. "Rude. But I'll forgive you because I'm amazing and I brought dessert too."
Your eyes widened as he revealed a small box of mango sticky rice. "Okay, you're officially the best."
"I know," he said smugly, sitting down beside you on the floor as you both started digging in.
The food was incredible, but the company was even better. You laughed as Rafe tried one of the spicier dishes and immediately regretted it, grabbing his drink to cool down.
"Why is it so hot?" he whined, fanning his mouth.
"It's literally labeled 'spicy curry,'" you said between giggles.
"Yeah, well, labels lie!" he shot back, making you laugh even harder.
Once the food was gone, Rafe disappeared into the hall closet and returned with a pair of thick blankets.
"What's this for?" you asked, raising an eyebrow.
"We're going stargazing," he said simply, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
You blinked. "Stargazing? Rafe, it's cold outside."
"Which is why I brought blankets, genius," he said, tossing one at you. "Come on, it'll be fun."
You sighed but got up anyway, wrapping the blanket around your shoulders as he led you outside. He spread the second blanket on the grass in the backyard and lay down, patting the spot beside him.
"You're ridiculous," you said, settling down next to him.
"Ridiculously in love with you," he shot back, grinning.
You groaned, playfully shoving his shoulder. "Stop with the cheesy lines!"
"Never," he said, draping an arm around you and pulling you closer.
You both lay there in comfortable silence for a while, staring up at the clear night sky.
"See that one?" Rafe said, pointing. "That's Orion's Belt. I remember it because it's the only constellation I know."
You chuckled. "Well, you've got one more than I do, so I'm impressed."
Rafe turned his head to look at you, his expression soft. "I don't really care about the stars, anyway. All I need is right here."
You rolled your eyes, but your heart melted a little at his words. "You're lucky you're cute," you said, leaning in to kiss him.
Back inside, the two of you curled up on the couch again, this time with mugs of hot chocolate. Rafe had insisted on making them, and despite his questionable kitchen skills, they actually turned out pretty good.
"You know," you said, resting your head on his chest, "this turned out to be a really great night."
Rafe kissed the top of your head. "Every night with you is a great night."
You smiled, feeling your eyelids grow heavy as his fingers traced lazy patterns on your back.
As you drifted off, you couldn't help but think about how much you loved him—and how even the simplest nights with Rafe were some of the best you'd ever had.
