The late afternoon sun streamed through the large windows of the Tannyhill estate, casting golden streaks across the polished floors. You were curled up on the massive leather couch in Rafe's living room, your legs draped over his lap as he absently scrolled through his phone.
"Do you ever get tired of looking at yourself on Instagram?" you teased, watching as he smirked at the screen.
"Jealousy doesn't suit you, babe," he shot back, not even glancing up.
You rolled your eyes, grabbing a throw pillow and lightly tossing it at his head. He caught it with one hand, finally setting his phone down. "Okay, what's your problem? I gave you my full, undivided attention for like... ten minutes earlier."
"Ten minutes?" you repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Wow, I feel so loved."
He grinned, setting the pillow aside and pulling you closer by your ankles. "You should. I'm a busy guy, you know."
"Busy doing what?" you challenged. "Scrolling? Flexing? Or perfecting that ridiculously dramatic smirk of yours?"
"That smirk gets me everything I want, doesn't it?" He leaned forward, giving you the exact look you were mocking.
You tried to fight the smile tugging at your lips but failed miserably. "You're insufferable."
"And you love it," he said, leaning back with a satisfied expression.
You grabbed one of the blankets draped over the couch and threw it over both of you, curling into his side. "So, what's the plan for today, Mr. Cameron?"
"Plan?" he repeated, wrapping an arm around your shoulders. "We don't need a plan. This is the plan. Relaxing. No chaos, no drama, just us."
You looked up at him, pretending to be suspicious. "Who are you, and what have you done with Rafe?"
He laughed, pressing a kiss to your forehead. "I can be chill. You act like I'm some crazy, unpredictable guy all the time."
"Because you are," you pointed out, grinning. "But I kind of like you that way."
"Kind of?" he teased, giving you a playful glare.
"Okay, fine," you said dramatically, throwing your hands up. "I really like you that way. Happy?"
"Very," he said, pulling you even closer.
For a while, the two of you just sat there, the silence broken only by the faint hum of the air conditioning and the occasional creak of the house settling. It was rare for Rafe to have quiet moments like this, but when he did, they were your favorite.
"Hey," he said after a while, his voice softer than usual.
"Yeah?"
He glanced down at you, his expression unusually serious. "You're good for me, you know that?"
You blinked, caught off guard by the sudden shift in tone. "Where's this coming from?"
He shrugged, running a hand through his hair. "I don't know. Just... being here with you, it makes me feel like I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I can just be myself."
Your chest tightened at his words, and you reached up to brush a strand of hair away from his face. "That's because you don't have to prove anything to me, Rafe. I like you for you. Even when you're being an idiot."
He chuckled, the serious moment easing into something lighter. "Good to know my stupidity is endearing."
"Very," you said, smirking.
The rest of the afternoon passed in a blissful haze of laughter, teasing, and stolen kisses. At one point, Rafe suggested watching a movie, but you both ended up getting distracted, the TV playing quietly in the background as you talked about everything and nothing.
Eventually, the sun began to set, casting warm hues of orange and pink across the room. You glanced over at Rafe, who was absentmindedly playing with your hair, his expression soft and content.
"What are you thinking about?" you asked, propping yourself up on your elbow to get a better look at him.
"Just how lucky I am," he said simply, his eyes meeting yours.
Your heart melted at his words, and you leaned down to press a gentle kiss to his lips. "I'm the lucky one, Rafe."
He smiled against your lips, pulling you back into his arms. "Okay, but seriously, I'm starving. Let's order pizza or something."
You laughed, shaking your head. "Way to ruin the moment."
"What? Even the most romantic guys need to eat," he said, already reaching for his phone to place the order.
As the two of you settled back into the couch, waiting for the food to arrive, you couldn't help but feel grateful for moments like this—simple, quiet, and filled with the kind of love that made everything else fade away.
