The holidays were in full swing, and you couldn't have been more excited. Christmas in the Outer Banks was a magical time—holiday lights twinkling on every corner, the crisp air mixed with the smell of pine and cinnamon, and the chaos of last-minute shopping filling every mall and store. You were especially excited for today because it meant spending time with Rafe. Christmas shopping might be a hassle, but it was the perfect way to make memories and have some fun together.
You met Rafe at the mall, just as the sun began to set, the glowing lights reflecting off the glass windows of the stores. Rafe strolled toward you in his usual laid-back style, wearing his favorite leather jacket, hands in his pockets, and a mischievous grin plastered on his face.
"You ready for the madness?" Rafe asked, raising an eyebrow as he approached, already looking like he was planning something fun.
"As ready as I'll ever be," you said with a smile, bouncing a little on your heels in excitement. Christmas shopping with Rafe always turned into something unpredictable. But that was part of the fun.
Rafe wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you close as he led you into the store. The mall was bustling with people, all on their own missions to find the perfect gift for someone. You two, however, had a specific plan—gifts for his family, friends, and of course, each other.
"So, first stop, gifts for your family?" you asked, your eyes scanning the shelves of the store.
"Yeah, let's get Sarah out of the way first," Rafe said, with a dramatic sigh. "She's easy—jewelry or something fancy, right? But then we gotta tackle my dad, and I'm not sure what to get him. I mean, he has everything."
You smiled softly at him. "For Sarah, just get her something shiny. She's got a thing for expensive jewelry, right? As for your dad... maybe a fancy bottle of something? He loves his whiskey."
Rafe nodded, clearly relieved that you were there to help him figure things out. "Good call. Alright, Sarah's gift—done."
After a quick detour to pick out a sparkly necklace for Sarah, you moved on to the next task: finding a gift for his younger brother, Wheezie.
"Wheezie is going to be a challenge," Rafe muttered, running his hand through his hair. "She's always so picky."
You laughed, knowing it would take more time to figure out what to get her than anyone else. Wheezie was Rafe's little sister, but she had a unique style and taste. She liked things that were practical, yet had a quirky edge to them.
"I got it," you said, stopping in front of a display of adorable little journals. "How about this? She's always writing stuff down and keeping her thoughts to herself, so a journal would be perfect. We can find something that fits her personality."
Rafe studied the journals for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, that's a good idea. Let's grab one of these." He picked up a cute leather-bound journal, the cover embossed with intricate designs. "This one's nice. She'll like it."
You smiled as Rafe put the journal in the basket. "Now for your dad."
"Ugh," he groaned, scratching his head. "I don't even know where to start with him. It's like he has everything already."
"You could get him something personal," you suggested, looking through a nearby shelf of fancy gifts. "Maybe a custom leather wallet or a high-end pen?"
Rafe raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed. "That's actually a good idea. He'd probably appreciate something like that. Alright, wallet it is." He grabbed one off the shelf, nodding to himself as if he were just relieved to have it figured out. "Now, I just have to survive the next few hours of shopping."
You grinned, enjoying the rhythm of the day as you both worked your way through the crowded mall, picking out gifts for the rest of his family. By the time you were done with the big-ticket items, Rafe had his sister and dad covered, and you were both ready for a quick break.
"So, what's next?" you asked, as you walked with him to the food court. "Friends?"
Rafe looked at you with a mischievous smile. "You know, I think we need something for Kie and Taylor. They're the hard ones to shop for. But don't worry, I've got it under control."
You gave him a skeptical look. "Oh, really? Kie's always buying what she wants, and Taylor is... well, Taylor. You really think you've got this?"
Rafe grinned, clearly excited for the challenge. "Watch me."
You both headed to the accessory store, where Rafe went on a mission to find something for Kie. After some browsing and a couple of attempts, Rafe pulled out a trendy leather bag.
"That's perfect," you said, impressed by his choice. "It's stylish, but not over the top."
"Yeah, I think she'll like it." He placed it in the cart with a satisfied smile. "Alright, now for Taylor."
Taylor was a bit more of a mystery to shop for. She had a particular style—quirky, but in a cool way. After a bit of searching, you finally landed on a set of handmade silver rings with intricate designs. You showed them to Rafe, who nodded in approval.
"This will definitely impress her," Rafe said, placing them carefully in the cart.
"Now that that's done, it's our turn," you said with a grin, looking up at him. "Let's get something for each other."
Rafe wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you closer as he leaned in. "You know, I've got the best idea for your gift. You'll love it."
"I'm sure I will," you teased, knowing Rafe had a knack for surprises.
With a few more stops to grab some little stocking stuffers, you and Rafe were officially done. Bags in hand, the two of you found a quiet corner of the mall to relax, sitting down on a bench with your cocoa cups in hand.
"Well, that wasn't so bad," you said, leaning back and looking up at the twinkling Christmas lights overhead.
Rafe grinned, taking a sip of his cocoa. "Yeah, it wasn't too bad. I mean, we survived. And I didn't even lose my cool once."
You laughed, nudging him with your elbow. "Are you sure about that? I remember a couple of moments where you were about to storm out of the store."
He smirked, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Alright, maybe I had a few moments. But, hey, at least we got everything done. Now, we can just relax and enjoy the holidays."
You smiled, leaning your head on his shoulder as you watched the people passing by, feeling grateful for the day spent together. "This Christmas is going to be amazing," you murmured.
Rafe kissed the top of your head, his voice soft as he wrapped his arm around you. "Yeah, with you by my side, it already is."
