It was the perfect kind of night—clear skies, a soft breeze, and the sound of crickets filling the air. You were at Rafe's house, the two of you lying side by side in his backyard, gazing up at the stars. The lights from the house were off, leaving just the faint glow of the moon and the distant shimmer of stars to guide your eyes.

The day had been low-key. You and Rafe spent most of it lounging around, talking about everything and nothing. Now, after a quiet dinner with his family, you found yourselves sprawled out on a blanket, nothing but the vast night sky above you.

"I swear, every time I look at the stars, I feel like I'm seeing them for the first time," you said, your voice soft and dreamy as you shifted slightly, getting more comfortable on the blanket.

Rafe chuckled beside you, his arm tucked behind his head, his eyes still trained on the sky. "You're a hopeless romantic, you know that?"

You grinned, turning your head to look at him. "Maybe. But you can't deny that it's kind of magical up here."

He smirked, rolling onto his side to face you, propping his head up on one hand. "Yeah, I guess it is," he said, his voice quieter now, more thoughtful. "But I'd say the real magic is right here."

You felt your heart skip a beat as his eyes met yours, the way he looked at you with that soft intensity, like he was seeing more than just the stars. You smiled, trying to keep your voice light. "You're so cheesy."

"I know." He leaned in closer, brushing a lock of hair behind your ear. "But I'm only cheesy because you make me this way."

You rolled your eyes, but you couldn't help the warmth that spread through you. "Stop it, Rafe. You're making me blush."

"Good. I like making you blush," he said with a wink, settling back onto the blanket beside you.

The two of you fell into a comfortable silence, the sound of the wind rustling the leaves in the trees blending with the faint sounds of the night. For a while, you just lay there, side by side, enjoying the peace.

"You ever think about the future?" Rafe asked after a while, his voice breaking the silence.

You turned your head to look at him, surprised by the question. Rafe was always spontaneous, rarely serious about anything unless it was something that really mattered. And this seemed to matter.

"What do you mean?" you asked, your voice soft.

He hesitated, and you could tell he was choosing his words carefully. "I don't know... like, where we'll be in a few years. What we'll be doing. I mean, you're amazing, and I know we're still young, but sometimes I just wonder... what if we're still like this, you know? Still together, still laughing at stupid stuff, still chasing the stars."

Your heart warmed at his words. You had always known that Rafe was a lot more thoughtful than he let on. There was this side to him that only came out when he was with you, and you loved it.

"I think about that too," you said, shifting slightly so that you were facing him more. "I don't know what the future holds, but I know I want you in it. I want to keep having moments like this with you."

Rafe's smile softened, and he reached over to take your hand, his fingers interlacing with yours. "I'm glad," he said quietly, his thumb brushing over the back of your hand. "Because no matter what happens, I'm not letting go of you."

You squeezed his hand, feeling a rush of affection for him. "Promise?"

"Promise," he said, and you both sat in the silence for a moment, the weight of the promise settling between you.

A few moments later, Rafe broke the silence again, this time with a mischievous grin on his face. "Hey, do you think you can spot constellations in the sky?"

You raised an eyebrow. "You want to try to find constellations now?"

"Yeah," he said, sitting up a little and pointing toward a cluster of stars. "I'm pretty sure that's Orion. And I think over there is Taurus."

You sat up next to him, looking at where he was pointing. "I see it. But honestly, I think the stars just look like little dots in the sky."

"I'm telling you, there's a pattern to it all," Rafe said, laughing as you lay back down next to him, your head resting on his chest. "You just have to know where to look."

"Well, I'm going to need a little more practice to become an expert star-gazer," you teased.

He chuckled softly, his hand brushing through your hair as you both settled back into the comfort of the night, now even closer than before. "I can teach you," he said. "But first, let's just enjoy this."

You nodded, content in the warmth of his embrace and the soft beat of his heart beneath you. "Yeah, let's just enjoy this."

For the rest of the night, the two of you stayed there, watching the stars together, no need for words. Just being with him, feeling the peace of the night and knowing that, for now, everything was perfect.
