Sarah's bedroom looked like a teenage sleepover movie exploded in it. Fairy lights strung across the ceiling. Pillows everywhere. Popcorn on the floor. One of Topper's socks hanging off the bedpost for no good reason. You were already in sweatpants and Rafe's oversized hoodie, curled into his side on the floor mattress like it was where you'd been your whole life.
Topper was trying to open a soda with one hand while texting with the other. Sarah was painting her nails like she wasn't sitting in the middle of a pile of unwashed laundry. The movie was paused, the snacks were already half gone, and someone had spilled Sour Patch Kids into the sheets.
You glanced around and grinned.
"This is the most unhinged sleepover I've ever been to."
"Welcome to hell," Sarah muttered, blowing on her nails.
"I feel like I'm at a 6th grade birthday party," Rafe said. "Where's the glitter glue and spin the bottle?"
"I will spin that bottle if you keep talking," you warned.
Topper grinned. "Please don't. I'm too sexy for this group. It wouldn't be fair."
"Please humble him," Sarah told you.
You turned to Rafe. "You gonna do something or just let him talk like that?"
Rafe's arm tightened around your waist. "If I do something, it won't be talking."
Topper pointed at him. "See? That's why I like you. Always ready to throw hands."
Sarah rolled her eyes. "No hands tonight. We're in our cozy, emotionally available era."
"Speak for yourself," you mumbled.
"You're literally cuddled into your boyfriend like a baby koala," Sarah said. "You have no rights."
Rafe looked down at you. "She is a koala."
You swatted his chest. "Don't give them ammo."
"Too late."

Eventually, the lights dimmed. The movie started. Blankets were pulled up. Laughter settled into warmth.
Topper and Sarah were on the bed, half-asleep and tangled. You and Rafe were still on the floor, wrapped in one of Sarah's stolen comforters, your legs resting over his, your head tucked under his jaw.
He whispered after a while. "You tired?"
"A little."
"Wanna go home?"
You shook your head. "I like it here."
Rafe kissed the top of your head. "Okay."
You were quiet for a bit, just breathing in sync, until you murmured, "You ever think about how weird this is?"
Rafe tilted his head. "What, dating you?"
"Dating me with Sarah and Topper here. I used to hate being around all of you."
He smirked. "You were shy."
"I was annoyed."
"You were in denial."
You paused. "Okay, maybe."
He shifted slightly so he could see your face. "You're not annoyed anymore, right?"
You looked at him. "Do I look annoyed?"
His smile faded into something softer, more real. "No. You look... safe."
Your heart twisted. "I am. With you."
He brushed his knuckles along your cheek. "You don't have to be scared of anything when I'm around."
