it was just one of those lazy saturdays where they wandered through the city, holding hands and ducking into random shops whenever something caught their interest.

a chilly breeze nipped at their faces, prompting minho to pull jisung's scarf tighter around his neck with a grumble about how the younger man never bundled up enough.

"hey, look! they opened that new pet store," jisung pointed out, his voice a little too excited for someone who supposedly just wanted to 'take a look.'

minho rolled his eyes but let himself be dragged through the glass doors. warmth and the faint scent of cedar bedding embraced them, accompanied by the soft chorus of bird chatter and bubbling aquariums.

the place was cozy, filled with bright displays of animal toys and food, but their attention quickly honed in on the rows of enclosures towards the back.

they wandered through the aisles, poking fun at the brightly colored pet outfits and gawking at the ridiculously large cat trees.

they wandered past the hamsters and rabbits, jisung cooing at each tiny creature while minho trailed behind, arms folded but the faintest of smiles tugging at his lips.

they approached a clear enclosure lined with blankets and a sign reading "rescue kittens - ready for adoption."

"min, look at them," jisung whispered, eyes alight as he peered over the edge. several kittens tumbled around, all fluff and squeaks, but one caught their attention immediately.

curled up in the corner, half-buried under a makeshift blanket, was a tiny kitten. its fur was a soft, delicate white with splotches of orange scattered across its back and head. it blinked up at them with wide, curious eyes - green and sparkling under the soft store lighting.

"oh my god..." jisung breathed, hands clasped in front of him. "I think I'm in love,"

"I think you need to stop getting emotionally attached to every stray animal you see," minho countered automatically, but there was no real bite to his words. his eyes were already fixed on the tiny kitten, head tilted slightly.

"I'm not emotionally attached," jisung shot back immediately. "I just- look at it, minho. it's like... practically a marshmallow with paws."

the kitten mewled, a weak, raspy little sound that seemed to slice right through minho's heart. without thinking, he crouched down, eyes locked with the little creature's.

"hey there, little guy," he murmured, his tone far softer than usual. "what're you doing all curled up by yourself?"

"can we hold him?" jisung asked the employee hovering nearby, his eyes already sparkling with the kind of fondness minho couldn't possibly argue against.

the worker nodded with a smile and gently lifted the kitten into jisung's waiting hands. the kitten trembled at first but then settled against jisung's chest, nestling into the warmth. the sight was almost painfully adorable. but then jisung was nudging the kitten into minho's arms with a bright, encouraging grin.

"your turn," jisung insisted, his voice practically dripping with affection.

minho hesitated, hands awkwardly cradling the tiny creature. but the kitten - almost like it had been waiting for him - let out another tiny mewl before pressing its tiny head against his palm.
