jisung had always known he was different. from the time he was a toddler, everything in the world felt too much. the lights were too bright, the sounds too loud, and people's expectations too confusing. he struggled to sit still, his thoughts constantly racing, and the anxiety that gripped him made simple things feel impossible.

school was a nightmare - teachers called him lazy, classmates teased him, and even his own parents looked at him with frustration instead of love.

"you just need to try harder," they'd say.

but no matter how hard he tried, it was never enough.

being autistic was hard itself. but having no one helping you through it, was even harder. jisung just needed someone to explain things to him, to tell him he was doing well, to hug him.

but his parents definitely weren't the people.

by the time he was seventeen, they had had enough.

"we can't do this anymore, jisung," his father said, voice cold. "you're always making excuses. you're lazy, you're weird, and you don't even try to be normal."

his mother didn't say anything - just crossed her arms and looked away. that hurt the most.

"you need to leave. figure out your life on your own."

they didn't give him time to pack much. just shoved some clothes into a bag and pushed him out the door like he was a stray cat they didn't want to deal with anymore.

the streets were terrifying. the constant noise, the unknown, the way people stared. he had no idea where to go.

and that's when he remembered minho.

lee minho wasn't just anyone - he was jisung's best friend, and he also happened to be one of the most feared people in the city. his family ran a powerful mafia syndicate, and minho had been raised to be ruthless, dangerous, untouchable.

but to jisung, he was just... minho. the same minho who stole popsicles for him when they were kids because jisung was too scared to ask the store clerk for one. the same minho who never made fun of his stimming, who never called him annoying when he couldn't stop talking about his hyperfixations.

so jisung did the only thing he could think of - he called him.

"hannie?" minho's voice was sharp, alert. "why are you calling me this late?"

"they kicked me out," jisung whispered. "I don't... I don't have anywhere to go."

there was silence on the other end. then minho cursed. "where are you?"

jisung told him, and in less than fifteen minutes, minho's black car screeched to a stop in front of him. the moment jisung slid inside, minho was already scanning him for injuries.

"did they hurt you?" his voice was deadly.

jisung shook his head. "just... threw me out."

minho's hands clenched into fists before he sighed and ran one through his hair. "you're staying with me now. I don't care what they say. what anyone says. you're mine to protect."

that was how jisung found himself in minho's massive penthouse, wrapped in a warm blanket with a cup of hot chocolate in his hands.

"you've always been so nice to me," jisung said after a while, his voice small. "why are you being so nice to me?"

minho gave him a look like he'd just asked if the sky was blue. "because I care about you, idiot. did you think I'd let you be homeless?"

jisung ducked his head, tears burning his eyes. "I didn't think I mattered that much. to anyone" his voice was quiet, almost fragile.

minho's jaw tightened. "you matter. more than you know."

---

living with minho was... an adjustment.

jisung wasn't used to being safe. he wasn't used to someone accommodating him instead of expecting him to change. he wasn't used to someone understanding him, someone holding him when the world got too much.

minho learned quickly. he had always been aware of jisung's needs. he noticed how jisung flinched at sudden sounds, so he warned him before turning on the blender or the tv.

he realized jisung struggled with eye contact, more than before, so he never pushed him to make it. he even made sure jisung had noise-canceling headphones for when the world got too loud.

and the anxiety? minho handled that too. whenever jisung started spiralling, minho would grab his hands, grounding him.

"you're safe," he'd whisper. "breathe with me."

jisung had never had anyone like that before.

minho protected him fiercely. anyone who so much as looked at jisung the wrong way found themselves regretting it. he was possessive in a way that sent shivers down jisung's spine - like he was something precious. like he was enough. like he was normal.

and jisung... jisung was falling for him.

hard.

but how could he not? minho was everything jisung had ever needed. strong, reliable, safe.

jisung didn't know if minho felt the same way, but then one night changed everything, giving jisung answers.

they had been watching a movie together, jisung curled up beside minho on the couch. he was tired, and without thinking, he nuzzled into minho's side.

minho stiffened, but instead of pulling away, he shifted so jisung was even closer. his hand found its way into jisung's hair, stroking gently. and jisung melted, his heart pounding.

"min..." he murmured.

"hmm?"

jisung swallowed. he needed courage, but this was minho. everything was okay.

"do you... do you like me?"

minho's fingers froze.

then, he let out a quiet sigh. "I was hoping you wouldn't notice."

jisung sat up, staring at him, panic filling his body in a second. "why?"

minho hesitated. "because you deserve better than me. I'm not a good person, jisung."

jisung shook his head. "you're the best person I know." he whispered quickly.

minho looked at him for a long time, searching his face. then, finally, he reached out, tucking a strand of hair behind jisung's ear.

"yeah?" his voice was soft, vulnerable. "then can I kiss you?"

jisung's breath hitched. he nodded. please.

minho didn't hesitate. he leaned in, pressing their lips together in a slow, careful kiss, like he was afraid jisung might break. but jisung didn't break. he melted, clutching minho's shirt as warmth flooded through him.

when they pulled apart, minho rested his forehead against jisung's.

"you're mine now," he murmured. "and I'll protect you for the rest of my life."

jisung smiled, his heart feeling whole for the first time in forever.

"I think I've always been yours."
