a soft gray morning had slipped over the city, the kind that pressed clouds low against the buildings and made everything feel quieter, slower, as if the world had pulled a blanket over itself. the kind of morning that made minho sleepy and made jisung want to stay in bed forever.
but life, unfortunately, did not bow to their desire to remain tangled under warm sheets.
jisung had work.
minho didn't.
and that alone already felt unfair.
the apartment was warm, lived-in, familiar - their apartment now, officially, finally. they had moved in together last month, though technically, according to minho, "you moved in like a year ago, you just didn't have the paperwork to prove it."
jisung had only rolled his eyes and kissed him.
but it was different now.
the toothbrushes lined up side-by-side. the mugs neatly drying by the sink. the laundry basket full of clothes they could no longer separate into "yours" and "mine." the framed photo of the three of them - minho, jisung, and soonie - sitting proudly on the tv stand.
jisung had never imagined he'd be someone who adored domesticity. he'd never known that waking up beside someone could feel like a daily miracle.
but here he was.
waking up curled against minho's chest every morning, minho's arm heavy and warm around his waist. kissing him goodnight every evening. padding around the apartment in minho's too-large shirts. eating breakfast together. watching minho make coffee with hair sticking up in seventeen directions.
this was the happiest he'd ever been.
and then there was soonie.
another thing jisung lived for.
soonie had long ago claimed him - claimed both his heart and the warm spot on the couch beside him, claimed his lap during lazy afternoons, claimed his attention with the smallest meow.
jisung loved him so much it was ridiculous.
he didn't even fight it anymore.
-
that morning, jisung slipped out of the bedroom quietly, rubbing at his eyes and yawning wide. the floor was cool beneath his bare feet, the air soft. minho was still in bed, one arm stretched over the blanket where jisung had been lying. he always reached for him unconsciously.
it made something warm bloom in jisung's chest.
he moved quietly through the hallway so he wouldn't wake him yet - minho looked too peaceful to disturb - but as soon as jisung stepped into the living room, he halted.
because soonie was already awake.
and waddling toward him in his careful, steady way.
"baby," jisung whispered, melting instantly. he crouched down, arms open, and soonie moved straight into him, pressing his head against jisung's shin with a soft, breathy purr.
jisung's heart squeezed so tightly it almost hurt.
he stroked soonie's fur gently, slowly, the way he had learned mattered - never sudden, never too firm. "you came to say good morning? hm?" jisung murmured, leaning down to kiss the top of soonie's head. "did you sleep well, baby?"
