it had been months since their honeymoon in hawaii, months since they had stopped sleeping in separate rooms, months since they had started whispering soft "I love you"s into the quiet of the night. they had been married for three years, yet it was only now that the marriage felt real.

the bedroom was bathed in the soft glow of the moonlight filtering through the curtains, casting silver streaks across the sheets. the air was still, heavy with the warmth of two bodies tangled together beneath the covers.

jisung sighed in contentment, nuzzling closer into minho’s chest, feeling the steady rise and fall of his breathing beneath his cheek, his fingers lazily tracing shapes over minho’s bare arm.

minho’s arms tightened instinctively around him, pulling him in even closer, pressing a soft kiss to the top of his head. his fingers tracing slow, mindless patterns against jisung’s back.

the silence between them wasn’t empty - it was full. full of warmth, full of safety, full of something deep and unspoken.

then, just like every night, minho whispered against his hair, “I love you.”

jisung’s heart swelled, just like it did every night when minho said those words. the words felt like home, but even as his lips curled into a soft smile, something in the depths of his chest twisted.

“I love you too,” he whispered back, their noses brushing as he tilted his head up, catching minho’s sleepy gaze.

minho pressed a lingering kiss to his lips, slow and deliberate, his hand sliding up to cup jisung’s jaw, thumb brushing over the soft skin there. it was perfect. this was perfect. this - he warmth, the whispers, the way they fell asleep entangled as if they never wanted to let go. falling asleep in minho’s arms, whispering sweet nothings into the night, waking up beside him every morning - was perfect.

and yet…

jisung’s smile faded slightly as he closed his eyes.

something was missing.

it wasn’t doubt. he knew minho loved him - minho showed it in the way he made jisung’s coffee just right every morning, in the way he pulled him into dances around the living room for no reason at all, in the way he always, always reached for jisung’s hand whenever they were walking side by side.

but maybe that was exactly why jisung felt uneasy.

because this all felt too perfect, too natural, too easy. and their beginning hadn’t been that.

they had hated each other. they had fought, thrown sharp words and cold stares. their marriage hadn’t been real back then.

and jisung couldn’t shake the feeling that, maybe, minho felt it too.

and minho did felt it.

he didn’t say anything, but he saw the way jisung’s eyes flickered with uncertainty sometimes, the way his smiles were just a little hesitant, as if he wasn’t sure he deserved to be this happy.
