it had started so subtly that minho wasn't even sure when the weight of it began crushing him. the occasional sharp-tongued comment online - petty whispers among people who didn't know him - had morphed into something far crueler, far louder.
it wasn't just words thrown into the void anymore. it was direct, pointed, and inescapable.
staff members chuckled behind his back, murmuring that he was putting on weight. fans, the very people who were supposed to love and support him, threw veiled insults about his appearance, comparing him to the others in ways that stung more than he'd ever admit out loud.
minho had always prided himself on his strength, his resilience. he wasn't the kind to break easily. but lately, it had become harder to ignore the voice in his head that repeated those same cruel words, over and over again until he started believing them.
his usual sharp wit and radiant smile had faded into something muted. something dulled.
that was what jisung noticed first. the light in minho's eyes, always burning so brightly, seemed dim today. his laughter, which could usually fill a room and lift anyone's spirits, was nowhere to be found.
and while the others were enjoying their rare day off - talking, joking, and eating - minho sat quietly, barely touching his food.
he was staring down at his plate as if it had personally offended him. his shoulders were tense, his head slightly bowed. he looked smaller, like he was trying to disappear into himself.
jisung didn't say anything at first. he just reached across the table, placing his hand on top of minho's. his thumb brushed gently over minho's knuckles, a silent reassurance. I'm here.
he squeezed his hand occasionally while chatting with the others, keeping his eyes on minho, waiting for some sign that things were okay. but after more than an hour, he couldn't stay quiet anymore. this wasn't like minho at all.
jisung stood up and walked around the table. he placed a firm but gentle hand on top of minho's head, tilting it up so their eyes met.
minho blinked at him in surprise, his expression softening when he saw the concern written all over jisung's face.
there was no need for words. jisung nodded toward the door, silently asking if they could leave. minho seemed to understand immediately. he grabbed his things without a word.
"guys, we're sorry, but we have to leave," jisung told the others, his tone apologetic but final.
"is everything okay?" chan asked, his brow furrowing in concern.
"yeah, yeah," jisung brushed him off with a quick smile. "we'll catch up later. promise."
jisung didn't want to waste another second. he needed to get minho out of there, needed to be alone with him where he could figure out what was wrong.
