jisung and soonie had a relationship built on mutual disdain and silent warfare.

it started the day minho brought jisung over to his apartment for the first time. it was supposed to be a sweet milestone - first introductions, first night spent together in a space that wasn't jisung's tiny dorm-style place. minho had smiled at him like he hung the moon, opened the door, and stepped aside to let him in.

soonie had been sitting on the couch like a prince. the moment jisung crossed the threshold, the cat narrowed his eyes, hissed loudly, and jumped off the couch with the dramatic flair of a scorned lover.

minho only laughed, picking up the cat and scratching under his chin. "he's just shy," he'd said, like soonie hadn't just declared war.

jisung, nursing the sting of rejection from a cat, gave soonie a deadpan look. "he looked into my soul and decided i wasn't worthy."

from then on, it was a battle of stares, side-eyes, and strategic furniture placement. jisung would wake up with cat hair mysteriously clinging to the inside of his hoodie. he'd go to pour cereal and find his favourite spoon missing - soonie's doing, obviously. minho brushed it off as coincidence, but jisung knew better.

still, he didn't stop coming over. in fact, he practically lived there now. half of his wardrobe had migrated into minho's closet. his toothbrush sat beside minho's in the bathroom. the coffee mugs had unofficially become their mugs.

soonie was not thrilled. he had spent three years being the only one minho cooed at in the mornings, the only one who received forehead kisses. and now here was jisung, human and annoyingly affectionate, stealing his place.

but minho loved them both. that was the problem.

today was quiet.

too quiet.

minho had left early for work, kissing jisung's forehead while jisung barely stirred from under the covers. "I'll be home by seven," he'd whispered. "don't burn the apartment down."

"no promises," jisung had mumbled before dozing off again.

now, hours later, jisung stood in the kitchen wearing one of minho's old shirts and humming a song he couldn't name. the sleeves were too long and kept slipping over his hands as he chopped vegetables, but he liked it that way. the kitchen smelled warm - soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sizzling together. the rice cooker was humming softly, and the soup on the stove bubbled gently.

he was proud of himself. the recipe wasn't anything fancy, but it was comforting. minho had been having a rough week, and jisung wanted to surprise him. food was the easiest way he knew how to say "i love you," especially when words failed him.

and so far, everything was going smoothly.

suspiciously smoothly.

until–

hiss.

the sound sliced through the air like a curse.

jisung didn't flinch. he sighed dramatically and turned around, wiping his hands on a towel.

he turned slowly, already knowing what he'd see.

there he was‐ mr. 'I hate jisung's guts for no reason', as jisung lovingly referred to him.

soonie sat at the edge of the hallway, just barely inside the kitchen. his eyes were narrowed, tail twitching slowly, ears angled back in disdain. it was a look jisung had come to know all too well.
