-------------------the air was crisp, biting at their cheeks as jisung and minho stepped out of the car and into the snow-covered tree farm.
the december sun hung low in the sky, casting golden light over the glittering expanse of evergreens.
jisung pulled his scarf tighter around his neck, his nose already turning red, while minho adjusted the beanie snug over his ears.
"baby, are you sure you're warm enough?" minho asked, his tone laced with affection. he reached out, tugging the ends of jisung's scarf a little higher to cover his chin.
jisung grinned, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "yes, I'm fine, min. you're the one who didn't bring gloves. don't blame me if your fingers freeze off."
minho rolled his eyes, but a small smile tugged at his lips. "I'll just make you hold my hand then, sungie. you're basically a walking heater."
jisung laughed, nudging him with his shoulder as they started walking down the main path of the tree farm.
rows upon rows of pine trees stretched out in every direction, their rich green boughs dusted with snow.
children darted between the trees, their laughter echoing through the chilly air, while families debated over the perfect tree.
minho reached for jisung's hand, threading their fingers together. his bare skin was cold against jisung's gloved one, but neither of them seemed to mind.
"so," minho said, his voice breaking the quiet between them, "what kind of tree are we looking for this year?"
jisung tilted his head thoughtfully. "something big enough to hold all the ornaments we bought last year. and maybe not too tall - we don't want a repeat of what happened with the one we got two years ago."
minho snorted at the memory. "you mean the one that almost fell over and smashed your laptop because you insisted on putting it by the desk?"
"hey!" jisung huffed indignantly. "that wasn't my fault. the tree stand was wobbly."
"it was your fault," minho teased, leaning closer to press a quick kiss to jisung's temple. "but it was cute watching you panic and try to hold it up with one arm while yelling for me to fix it."
jisung glared at him half-heartedly, though his cheeks turned pinker - not just from the cold. "whatever. this time, it's your turn to pick."
minho paused, his gaze sweeping over the rows of trees. "my turn, huh?"
"yup. no pressure, though," jisung added, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.
minho shook his head, a soft chuckle escaping him. "alright, alright. let's see what we've got here."
they wandered deeper into the farm, their boots crunching against the snow.
minho took his time, carefully inspecting each tree they passed. he'd crouch down to check the trunk or step back to evaluate its shape, all while jisung followed behind, humming christmas carols under his breath.
"this one?" minho asked, pointing to a tall, full tree with evenly spaced branches.
jisung wrinkled his nose. "it's nice, but the top's a little crooked."
minho sighed dramatically. "you're picky, baby."
"and you love it," jisung shot back, grinning.
they moved on, pausing occasionally to inspect another tree. each time, one of them found some tiny flaw - a gap in the branches, too many needles falling off, or not the "right" shade of green.
