the wooden floor of the practice room groaned beneath hurried footsteps, squeaks of sneakers marking the rhythm of bodies trying to keep up with the music. the mirrors along the wall reflected a room full of tense faces, their expressions tight, brows furrowed, arms flailing in imperfect unison.
but above the thudding bass and ragged breathing, a single voice cut sharply through the air.
"you're doing it wrong again, jisung!"
the yell made the room fall still, the track still blaring from the speakers but none of the students daring to move. everyone froze, their gazes bouncing between jisung and minho as if waiting for one of them to break first.
jisung's arms dropped to his sides, heavy with frustration, his chest rising and falling rapidly. he turned his head, dark eyes burning as they locked onto minho's. "don't yell at me, lee," he spat, his voice low but sharp, like glass.
minho didn't flinch. he stepped forward until he was directly in front of jisung, his presence almost suffocating, his glare just as fiery. the two of them stood toe to toe, neither backing down, the air between them taut like a stretched wire.
"i won't if you do the move right," minho said in a low tone, his voice stripped of the earlier shout but laced with something heavier, something that made jisung's jaw clench. minho lingered there for a heartbeat longer before pulling back, his sharp gaze never once leaving jisung. then, in a voice meant for the entire room, he barked, "in position."
the command reverberated through the space, pulling everyone back into action. sneakers shuffled, arms lifted, the line of dancers reforming into their starting points. jisung took his spot begrudgingly, his lips pressed into a hard line, but his eyes never strayed far from minho.
the music started again.
minho stood at the front, arms crossed over his chest, his reflection looming in the mirror. he didn't dance, didn't move - he only watched, his sharp eyes tracking jisung's every step, every twitch, every mistake.
"stop!" the word echoed like a gunshot as minho stormed to the speaker and cut the music. heads snapped up, shoulders stiffened, the room plunged into silence except for the faint hum of the fluorescent lights.
"jisung," minho said, his tone edged with impatience as he strode across the floor. he stopped right in front of him, staring him down, and then in one sudden move, he stepped behind him. jisung felt the heat of his presence at his back, closer than anyone else dared to be.
"you're a fucking disaster," minho growled into jisung's ear, his words sharp enough to make the students at the sides exchange uneasy glances. his hands landed on jisung's hips, firm and unyielding, dragging him into a corrected stance. "your posture is wrong."
jisung tensed under his touch, glaring at minho's reflection in the mirror, his lips twisting into a scoff. "you're just a terrible teacher," he hissed, every syllable laced with defiance.
a murmur ran through the room, unspoken discomfort spreading among the others. no one moved, no one dared to speak, afraid of sparking another fire.
minho lifted his head slowly, his eyes flicking to the students. "without music this time," he ordered in a loud voice, as if nothing had just happened. then, lowering his voice but directing it only at jisung's reflection, he added, "and put some effort in it this time."
