"when is his meeting?" changbin asked, not looking away from his monitor. his fingers continued moving rapidly across the keyboard, the clicking of the keys filling the otherwise tense office while several unfinished slides sat open on his screen. there were graphs that still needed fixing, numbers that had to be checked, and an entire section of the presentation that was nothing more than a blank white slide staring back at him.
"in..." felix started, glancing down at his own screen as he checked the calendar for what felt like the tenth time. his eyes widened slightly when he saw the time, and he slowly turned his head toward changbin as if he already knew the answer was going to ruin both of their days. "12 minutes," he finally answered, his voice becoming quieter at the end.
"we are dead," changbin said, his face completely serious as he immediately started typing even faster. his shoulders were tense, his eyes barely blinking as he jumped between different windows and tried to somehow force forty minutes of work into twelve.
unfortunately, there was absolutely no chance he was going to finish the presentation in twelve minutes, or even twenty minutes if someone promised him the office would remain completely silent.
"you can't finish it in 12 minutes?" felix asked, and despite everything, there was still a tiny bit of hope in his voice. changbin slowly looked at him, his expression almost offended by the question, before shaking his head so firmly that his hair moved with it.
"felix, i could have twelve hours and i'd still be sitting here at the end wondering why i decided to work in this company," he muttered, turning back toward his monitor and desperately dragging another chart into the presentation.
jisung blinked at his friends from the other side of the desks, his glasses sitting slightly too low on his nose after hours of staring at his own screen. he pushed them back up with one finger and opened his mouth, just about to point out that technically they couldn't just get killed because of a late presentation, when the door to the ceo's office opened.
the sound immediately caught everyone's attention.
jisung slowly turned his head when he heard footsteps coming their way, and the atmosphere in the office seemed to change with every step. the quiet tapping of keyboards became slower, conversations disappeared completely, and even the people who had been pretending not to listen suddenly became very interested in whatever was on their monitors. the footsteps stopped directly in front of the desk where changbin and felix were sitting.
"the usb with the presentation for the meeting," minho said.
his voice was cold as always, calm enough to be frightening, and he held one hand out while the other rested against his side. changbin's fingers stopped above the keyboard. for a second, he simply stared at the screen in front of him as though the answer might magically appear there if he waited long enough.
"now," minho added sharply, glancing at his watch.
changbin swallowed.
"uh..." he started, but the word barely made it out before he closed his mouth again. there was no point trying to come up with an excuse when minho was already looking directly at him. those sharp eyes moved from changbin to felix, then slowly across the rest of the office, taking in every person who had suddenly become extremely fascinated by their work.
"so you can't make a single presentation on time?" minho asked, his voice rising just enough to echo around the office. the question hung in the air, and nobody dared to answer it.
