it was their third date.
they weren’t dating yet, not exactly. there had been tentative plans, a flurry of nervous texts, and late-night calls that stretched longer than either of them meant them to. there were jokes that lingered, eyes that stayed a little too long on lips, and hands that almost touched. but nothing had been said out loud. not yet.
but tonight - tonight had felt different before it even began.
minho arrived outside jisung’s building right on time, just like always. his car was parked neatly against the curb, a soft instrumental song playing through the speakers. he leaned back in the driver’s seat, watching the entrance, foot tapping slowly against the floor mat. he wasn’t nervous. at least, that’s what he told himself.
then the door opened.
jisung stepped out wearing a dark sweater tucked into high-waisted jeans. his hair was slightly curled at the ends, still damp from a quick shower. his eyes found the car immediately, and when he saw minho looking at him, he grinned. the kind of grin that made minho's heart do an actual somersault.
minho got out and walked over to open the door for him. “you look...” he trailed off for a moment, eyes traveling down and back up. “...warm,” he finished, teasing.
jisung rolled his eyes with a laugh. “you mean hot.”
“well,” minho leaned in slightly, grinning, “i didn’t wanna boost your ego too soon. we still have the whole night.”
jisung slid into the passenger seat, still smiling. “too late. ego’s already flying high.”
they drove with the windows cracked just enough to let the summer evening air in. the breeze was soft, and the sun was low on the horizon, painting everything gold. they talked - not about anything heavy, just about their day, about the weird dream jisung had the night before, about how minho once got stuck in an elevator with a mime for twenty minutes.
“did he say anything?” jisung asked, eyes wide with laughter.
“he did not break character once,” minho said solemnly. “i think i came out of there traumatized.”
the restaurant minho chose was tucked into a quiet street, small and cozy, lit by amber sconces and filled with the low hum of conversation. the host greeted them with a smile and led them to a booth near the window.
“have you been here before?” jisung asked once they were seated.
minho shook his head. “no, but a friend told me about it. said it was... intimate.”
jisung raised an eyebrow. “intimate?”
“yeah,” minho said with a little shrug. “i figured that was code for ‘impress your date.’”
jisung hid his smile behind his water glass. “smooth.”
they ordered - minho chose the pasta with lemon butter sauce, jisung went for the risotto with mushrooms. they shared an appetizer, talked about movies they’d seen recently, debated over whether pineapple belonged on pizza (minho was firmly against, jisung passionately for).
at one point, minho reached across the table to brush a crumb from jisung’s cheek. he didn’t even realize what he was doing until his fingers had already made contact. jisung froze, eyes flicking up to meet his.
