minho was just unbuttoning the buttons on his other shirt sleeve when the quiet yet sharp inhale behind him caught his attention.

the small sound cut through the stillness of the room so clearly that his fingers paused mid-movement. the last button slipped from his grasp as he turned slightly, glancing over his shoulder toward the bed.

jisung was sitting there, exactly where minho had left him a few minutes earlier. he was still dressed in his suit, though the jacket had been taken off and draped carefully beside him. the soft white shirt beneath it was a little wrinkled now, the bow tie loosened just enough that it sat crooked against his collar.

the hotel room lights were dim, most of the brightness coming from the warm bedside lamp and the faint glow of the city outside the tall window. the soft gold lighting cast gentle shadows across the room, making everything feel quieter, softer, more intimate.

even with the low light, minho immediately noticed the shine in jisung's eyes.

his heart tightened.

"jisung?" minho called softly.

his voice was quiet, careful, as he walked toward the bed. the carpet muffled his footsteps, and within seconds he was standing beside jisung, close enough to see the slight tremble in the younger man's lips.

jisung looked up at him and sniffled, quickly wiping beneath his eyes with the back of his hand. he forced a small smile, the kind that was meant to reassure but only made minho more worried.

"what's wrong, darling?" minho asked quietly.

he reached out without hesitation, cupping jisung's cheek with warm fingers. the familiar gesture came naturally to him now, something he had done countless times before. jisung leaned into the touch immediately, resting his face against minho's hand like it was the safest place in the world.

for a moment neither of them spoke.

the quiet hum of the city drifted through the window. somewhere far below, a car passed. the air conditioning gave a soft whispering sound in the background.

"it's just..." jisung started.

his voice was so soft it almost disappeared in the quiet room. he sniffled again, his fingers twisting nervously in the fabric of his pants.

"it was over so fast."

he blinked up at minho with eyes full of tears, and minho felt his chest squeeze painfully.

just a few hours ago those same eyes had been sparkling under the sunlight of the ceremony. jisung had been smiling so brightly while walking down the aisle that minho had nearly forgotten how to breathe.

and now those eyes were glossy and fragile.

minho leaned down immediately, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of jisung's head. the scent of hairspray and faint floral perfume lingered there from earlier.

then he slowly lowered himself onto the bed beside him.

the mattress dipped slightly under his weight, and minho wrapped his arms around jisung's shoulders, pulling him close against his side.

jisung melted instantly.

like he had been waiting for it.

he shifted closer until he was tucked comfortably beneath minho's chin, his arms slipping around minho's waist while he pressed his cheek against his chest.
