minho was in his car parked in the underground car parking of his work building, phone in hand.
2 missed calls and 6 new messages.
all from jisung.
he sighed. he was sitting in his car for what felt like hours, but it was just 20 minutes. he had stayed longer at work today, and obviously jisung had noticed.
minho sighed again and threw his phone on the passenger seat and moved his hands to grip the steering wheel, resting his forehead on his hands.
minho closed his eyes, inhaling deeply as he tried to clear his mind, but the weight on his chest remained. the stress from work, the exhaustion, the pressure - it was suffocating. and now, jisung.
for the past two weeks, minho’s work had consumed him entirely.
it was as if his entire world had shrunk to the four walls of his office, the soft hum of his computer, and the endless buzz of notifications.
every day felt like a blur of meetings, emails, and project deadlines that piled up faster than he could ever hope to manage. the pressure weighed heavily on him, a constant, suffocating presence that refused to let up.
it had started with one project that seemed harmless enough. a few extra tasks to complete, a little more responsibility. but soon, those extra tasks snowballed into an overwhelming flood of work. requests kept coming, clients kept calling, and expectations kept rising.
it wasn’t just the sheer volume of work that got to him - it was the relentless pace. there was no time to breathe, no time to reset. every time he thought he could catch up, another task would appear on his to-do list, pushing him further into the cycle.
he had tried to manage, of course. he'd always been a hard worker, someone who prided himself on being reliable and efficient. but even he had limits.
the long hours began to take a toll on his physical health - his sleep became erratic, his meals were often skipped, and the tiredness was like a constant fog in his mind. his body felt like it was moving on autopilot, a machine programmed to push through, no matter how drained it felt.
at first, he could power through, telling himself that this was just a temporary phase. but as days turned into weeks, that hope began to wane.
the exhaustion crept into his bones, and the anxiety gnawed at him, always there in the back of his mind, reminding him of everything he had yet to do. the stress was overwhelming, and there was no one he could turn to for relief. every minute spent at work was another minute spent not at home, not with jisung, and it weighed on him more than he wanted to admit.
minho couldn’t shake the guilt that had been growing steadily. he knew jisung was noticing. he could see it in the way he looked at him when minho came home late again, tired and distracted. he could feel it in the silences between them, in the way jisung’s usual warmth had started to fade, replaced with concern - an emotion minho hated seeing in his eyes.
