The smell of the house when (f/n) walked into it after work wasn't new to her. It was a little new every time, but it was relatively the same every time she smelt it; burnt food.

She very much appreciated when her boyfriend did romantic things for her; buying her cute little things, running her baths when he knew her day was long, tickling her when he knew she needed a laugh, even though being tickled was the worst.

However, Tanaka Ryunosuke in the kitchen was a mess.

That wasn't much of a surprise. Before moving in with (f/n), he lived with his sister, who wasn't the best at cooking or cleaning or baking. He hadn't learned anything from anyone, but that didn't bother (f/n) at all; she was alright at cleaning, enough so to keep their apartment in shape, and she worked in a restaurant, so she was a great cook.

Tanaka did his share of taking care of the home; killing the bugs, turning off the lights if they forgot and already laid down, he even slept with a bat on the table beside his bed to beat anyone if he needed to.. They both have jobs and great incomes, but Tanaka always felt shitty because he couldn't cook.

So, six months ago, he started trying. He didn't ask for help though, and tried to make meals while following the instructions of youtube tutorials. The first time he managed to absolutely destroy spaghetti, something (f/n) was sure was impossible to mess up.

He tried baking after that, and almost set the house on fire while trying to make (f/n) a birthday cake.

After a few more incidents, his girlfriend had gotten him to stop for a while. He understood that it was very, very dangerous for him to cook when she wasn't home, and had agreed that he wasn't going to cook anymore.

So, when (f/n) walked into the home that day, she was a bit surprised, but realized she shouldn't be immediately. Tanaka was a very determined boyfriend, and he wanted nothing more in the world than to please his girlfriend.

"Ryu?" she called as she took off her shoes and hung up her coat.

"(f-f/n)," he stuttered, managing to trip out of the kitchen quickly. He was clad in (f/n)'s cute baking apron, and was holding a very burnt spatula in his right hand. "I figured you'd be home later," he added, sheepishly scratching his cheek with his empty hand.

The girl smiled at him and slowly made her way into the kitchen. It was still a little smokey in the house, and once she entered the kitchen she saw the reason why it was so smokey.

On top of the oven was an extremely burnt pan, and inside of it was something that (f/n) couldn't identify because it was so charred.

"What were you cooking here, Ryu?" He looked down, too embarrassed to answer, which caused his girlfriend to smile at him. "You clean it up, okay? I'm gonna call in some take out, and then we'll watch shitty movies and chill on the couch."

Half an hour later they were doing just that; Tanaka had spent the half an hour scrubbing the pan, trying to turn it back to it's original red color. He didn't succeed, and the two decided they'd have to go by a new one the next day. It didn't bother the girl at all, but Tanaka felt absolutely terrible.

After settling down on the couch Tanaka continued to apologize over and over again. (f/n) smiled at him and placed her hand on his shoulder, effectively shutting him up.

"Ryu, I love you a lot, but please stop trying to cook me dinner-" she paused for a moment to pull him closer "- you suck."
