Weddings were overrated - Akaashi had and would always think that, but when it was the wedding of his oldest friend he had to go, especially because he was the best man. Don't get him wrong, Akaashi thought love was beautiful, and he thought they ceremony for two people becoming married was even more beautiful, but people blew it out of proportion, made it more stressful than it had to be.
He thought it was especially overrated because he was alone, and just recently alone too. For eight months he was with a girl, probably the most amazing girl in the world, and he fucked it up and blew it. He had to tell Bokuto the story of why she wouldn't be at his wedding, had to deal with crying to be his best friend because he couldn't admit how many feelings he had before it was too late.
Sitting at Bokuto's wedding alone, watching him dance around with his partner to their song was killing Akaashi. He was on his second - maybe third, who was counting? - glass of wine, and he hadn't moved from the corner he was sat in much since they'd moved to the fancy reception hall. It was when Kuroo came over to him with Kenma under his arm that Akaashi knew he was in for some kind of shit.
"Hey hey, Akaashi, you're looking rather down tonight - (l/n) couldn't make it?"
Akaashi sloshed the wine around in it's glass, looking from Kuroo - a clueless idiot - to Kenma - who knew about the break up but not why it happened - and then he sighed. "(f/n) and I actually broke up about two weeks ago," he admitted, and Kuroo's grin fell immediately.
"O-Oh my god, Akaashi I'm so sorry I didn't know -" he turned to Kenma and sent him an accusatory look. "Why didn't you tell me? You don't look surprised, you must have known!"
"It's no big deal, Kuroo. You didn't know." Akaashi finished his glass of wine and was immediately wanting another - he knew it wasn't a good idea to get hammered at a wedding, because when he had too much wine he got sentimental and too heartfelt, but he wasn't thinking about that right now.
"Here," he looked up to Kenma, who hadn't touched the wine in his glass. "I'm driving a few people home, so you can have mine."
Akaashi took it with a thankful nod and then downed half the wine in one go. Kuroo wished him good luck before pulling Kenma off to talk with a few people who used to be on the Fukurodani team, leaving Akaashi alone yet again.
He was only alone for a while before Bokuto came over, a thoughtful smile on his face. "'Kaashi, you've gotta get out and go dance!"
Akaashi smiled slightly but shook his head no to his friend. "It's nice, but I don't really feel like dancing."
Bokuto sighed and sat down on the chair beside Akaashi. "Look here, Keiji," he said, pointing to his eyes. "I know it's not for you, I know you're bad at romantic gestures, but I also know that you love (f/n) and you'd do anything to be with her. So you, and your four glasses of wine, need to fucking go to (f/n)'s house right now and tell her how you feel."
Akaashi thought about it; that would be the ideal situation here, despite how embarrassing it would be - it'd be worth it for (f/n). Bokuto was right, Akaashi would do anything to be with (f/n) even if it meant going to her home at - well, whatever time it was and beg for her back.
"I don't think she'd forgive me, Kou. I fucked up, I couldn't even tell her how much I cared about her, and she can't read me like you can an-"
Bokuto clamped his hands on either of Akaashi's cheek and forced their eyes to meet. "You can do it. If (f/n) means this much to you then you can do it, Keiji, I know you can."
Akaashi looked from Bokuto's eyes to his half finished glass of wine - the fourth, he'll admit it - and then he drank the rest of it. "I'm going, Kou. Have a good time on your honeymoon, I'll call you or text you tomorrow I just- " he stopped and started tripping to walk away. "I gotta go to (f/n)."
