~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(f/n) never really wanted kids - she wanted to get a home with the person she loves some day, get married even, but babies had never been a big part of her fantasy. She didn't enjoy dealing with any bodily fluids, and that's all kids really were - crawling, babbling things that were always peeing and pooping and puking, and (f/n) really wasn't down for that.
She and Oikawa had never really talked about it anyways - they both had jobs they were dedicated to and when they came home it was nice to just laze around together on the couch and do nothing of importance. Neither of them were really interested in more responsibilities - taking care of each other and themselves was already a problem. Plus they lived in an area of Tokyo that (f/n) would never, ever raise a kid in, especially in their small apartment.
So she'd never really considered children. That was, until, she realized that being pregnant was an actual option and possibility in the situation she was in right now.
Her period had always been on time, and she always knew the day before it was coming because she'd always get immense cramps. So, when she didn't get terrible cramps the day she was expecting them she was a little worried. She didn't let it faze her much and continued on the same, hoping that she'd get them tomorrow and praying that her body was just done with the terrible cramps before her period.
But then it was six days later and she still hadn't gotten her period. She was trying to hold it together, trying not to freak out and make it obvious to Oikawa that she was scared. She couldn't will herself to go and buy tests herself, and she definitely didn't want to deal with going to a professional because what if she wasn't pregnant? She would be wasting their time.
So, she called the one person she knew could keep a secret from Oikawa until she figured this out.
"(l/n)?" he asked, confusion in his voice.
"You remember that time I saved you and Tooru from being arrested no questions asked?"
She heard Iwaizumi sigh before he spoke again. "What do you need?"
*****
An hour later Iwaizumi arrived at (f/n) and Oikawa's apartment with a bag of four different brands of pregnancy tests. He wanted to ask, so damn bad, but this was a no questions asked favor, so he handed her the bag with his lips pressed in a thin line. (f/n) took the paper bag with shaky hands.
"Don't. Tell. Tooru," she said, and Iwaizumi nodded. "I don't want him to know until it's a for sure thing or not a for sure thing." Iwaizumi nodded again, knowing that if he opened his mouth he would ask questions. "I'm gonna go pee on these. Would you please, please stay here so I'm not alone?"
"Of course," he replied immediately. (f/n) was his best friend's girlfriend - he knew for sure that Oikawa was going to marry this girl some day, and if she needed some support to pee on sticks and find out life changing information than Iwaizumi was going to be there.
He sat on their bed while (f/n) was in the bathroom, and after she was finished she washed her hands and sat beside him and took his hand.
"What's he gonna think?" she asked quietly, squeezing his hand, which was acting as an anchor at the moment. "He won't leave me, right?"
Iwaizumi gave her a disbelieving look. "Of course he won't! This stress must really be fucking with your head if you think he's going to leave you." He paused for a minute, trying to think of how to word the next part. "Tooru loves you more than anything - he talks about marrying you and growing old with you, (f/n). If you're pregnant he's going to be ecstatic, and we both know he'll be an amazing father."
Before (f/n) could reply there was a series of beeping from the timer she'd set up, and she and Iwaizumi met eyes before walking into the bathroom.
*****
Later, after Iwaizumi left to get back to his own significant other, (f/n) was left feeling nervous and scared and a little queasy. She knew Oikawa wouldn't leave her - Iwaizumi was right, he was going to be ecstatic and so supportive and he was going to cry probably and it was going to be a great conversation, but (f/n) couldn't fight the small part of her that was shaking with fear.
She had it all planned. The positive pregnancy tests were placed in a ziplock bag, and she was going to give him the bag and wait for him to talk before actually saying the words aloud. She still had yet to, she wanted to say them first with Oikawa there, she didn't want to say them alone because wow was she afraid she'd break down.
He walked into the house around the same time as usual, glasses perched on his nose and a soft smile on his face. He was carrying a bag with restaurant food and a few beers in it, things that they consumed most Friday's to kick off the weekend. He kissed her forehead and greeted her, hands on her arms. He could tell immediately that she wasn't okay, and a frown took over his smile.
"What's wrong?"
"Uhh, could we go sit at the table to talk?" she asked, voice a little shaky. Oikawa agreed, knowing that (f/n) wouldn't sound so strained and scared if it wasn't a big deal. Once they were sat across from each other (f/n) pulled the ziplock bag out of her jacket pocket and handed it over to Oikawa.
He didn't realize what they were at first, but once he did his eyes went wide, and he looked up to meet (f/n)'s watery eyes. "W-We're.." Oikawa couldn't finish his sentence, so (f/n) did for him.
"I'm pregnant, Tooru," she said, laughing a little at the end. "We're gonna be parents."
Oikawa stood from the table and picked (f/n) up into a hug, spinning her around. He was laughing, and when they pulled back to see each other they were both starting to cry. "I never knew I wanted kids until now," Oikawa said, his hands moving to (f/n)'s hips, thumbs rubbing over her clothed stomach.
"Neither did I," (f/n) said, a shaky laugh escaping her.
Oikawa dropped to his knees and put his ear to his girlfriend's middle, trying to hear something, anything to prove there was a child inside of her.
"You can't hear it, you idiot," (f/n) said with a fond voice, and when Oikawa looked up at her she felt her heart literally melt at the happiness she saw.
"Do you think it can hear me?"
"Not yet, it has barely developed yet."
Oikawa lifted up (f/n)'s jacket and kissed her all over her abdomen. "I'm gonna talk to it anyway," he warned before he was talking to her stomach. "Hey baby," he started, happy tears still falling from his eyes. "You are going to be so loved and so happy your entire life. Mommy and Daddy will always be there for you for everything, okay? And your brute of an uncle Iwa-Chan will be there too, but you've gotta watch out with him because he shows his love differently. And you're gonna be the chubbiest baby because (f/n)'s mom is going to feed you and never let you leave her sight."
Oikawa looked up to (f/n) and smiled so damn real that all of (f/n)'s initial fears dissipated. "You're never going to be alone, baby."
*****
"I'm kind of scared, (f/n)," Oikawa admitted that night, his leaning on top of (f/n)'s, his hands splayed across her belly. "I'm really scared."
(f/n) looked up to him and smiled slightly. "Me too. But our parents are professionals, and I'm going to read every baby book and you're going to work yourself until you're falling asleep during dinner and we're gonna be great parents, Tooru."
Oikawa leaned down to kiss her, mumbling 'I love you' against her lips in between kisses. She said them back, and once the kiss was over Oikawa looked down at (f/n)'s belly and rubbed it softly.
"And we love you too, baby. We love you so, so much."
I never want to produce children but I can definitely understand why people do it's a crazy happy thing.
Oikawa would also be the best father ever???
