(f/n) wasn't much like her brother - she had the freckles and the same colored hair, the awkward posture and the same dopey cowlick on top of her head, but she was nothing like him on the inside. She was hot headed and loud, and while a little reserved sometimes like her brother could be, she didn't usual hesitate to speak her mind and tell somebody what was up. She did love volleyball as much as Yamaguchi, but she wasn't a fan of playing. She liked spectating - analyzing the postures and plays, helping her brother and the others on the team with the small faults she saw in their forms.
The others didn't mind - she'd been friends with Suga, Daichi, and Asahi since they had all started high school together, and they appreciated the ways she could help the team with just little tips and tricks.
It was no surprise to anyone when she showed up to practices, when she sat beside Kiyoko and shouted out tips to the players, praising them when they applied what she suggested and got better results. Everyone love when she came to practices (especially Hinata) and the were sure to express their gratitude to her when they noticed results in the long run. She wanted to do this for a living, help people get better at the thing they loved, and this was just the start.
Yamaguchi took the most advantage of her knowledge, and during almost an entire practice he was asking for tips on his jump float serve, and his sister was happy to sit and watch and comment as long as she could. They were expecting visitors, two teams from Tokyo that they'd gone and practiced with during the summer. Karasuno had the chance to host their own training camp for a weekend, and Takeda was overly joyed to take up the opportunity. She planned on leaving when they arrived, because she didn't want to interrupt important matches between the teams, so when the different teams started filing in, she started collecting her things. It was when she saw just what teams were there that she started freaking out.
"Tadashi," she said, holding onto her little brother and hiding behind him. "You did not tell me that Fukurodani was one of the teams coming here."
The boy scratched the back of his neck, and a blush rose to his cheeks. "Uhh-"
"Is he here? Did Bokuto come with them? Oh my gosh, 'Dashi, he is one of the top five spikers in Japan and you didn't tell me he was coming? This is a big deal - Bokuto Koutarou is here, in the flesh, and you're about to play him. How can Nishinoya's arms even handle receiving his spikes, Tadashi? They're so amazing, like powerful enough to break arms, probably."
"Just calm down, (f/n)," Tadashi suggested with a warm smile, "he's really cool and easy to get along with, and you'll surely boost his ego if you keep talking like that."
"He deserves an ego boost - have you seen his straights? They're phenomenal, and his muscles and those kneepads - Tadashi, that boy is going to be the death of me."
Tadashi couldn't help but laugh at that, and he placed his hands on her shoulders. "Go talk to him - he was super nice to Tsukki, so he'll have no problem being nice to you."
Just as she was about to take her brother's advice and go talk to one of her favorite volleyball players in all of Japan she stopped. Bokuto was sat down, a pout on his face, his hair down, and a group of people around him trying to cheer him up. "What's wrong with him?" she asked quietly, looking at Tadashi in a worried manner.
"Oh - I'm not sure really? Tsukki described it to me as mood swings, but I think it might be more severe than that? Again, I'm not sure, but he's probably just having one of his down moods right now."
"Would it still be okay for me to go talk to him?"
"That'd actually be the greatest thing ever." Both Yamaguchi children turned to see Kuroo, standing tall and happy beside Tsukishima. "We've tried everything to cheer him up, but good ol' Tsukki here says that you've got a lot of good things to say about Bo?"
"Umm, have you seen the dude play volleyball? I could go on all day about how great he is."
Kuroo laughed at that and placed his hand on her back. "Please, go tell him that - it will really help, and I'm sure he'd love to show off for you afterwards."
(f/n) smiled wide at that and then walked slowly towards the male that was now sulking alone on the bench. He didn't even lift his head until she spoke, and she was surprised he even heard her because she was speaking so quietly.
"Huh?" he asked, looking up to her.
"You're Bokuto Koutarou, right?" He made a noise of approval and averted his gaze downward again. "Oh my gosh, you're like, one of the best volleyball players in Japan."
The male sighed. "Look, if Kuroo set you up to this, then thanks for trying but I'm really ju-"
"No no no, you've got it all wrong. Yeah, he told me I should come talk to you, but that's just because I was all the way over there," she pointed to where Yamaguchi, Kuroo, and Tsukki were standing, watching, "fangirling over how cool you are." He still didn't perk up, so (f/n) decided to do what she did best - talk. "Like, your straights are fucking amazing, and when you do your legendary crosses you manage to get them so close to the net, like how do you even manage to do that? And your enthusiasm, my god, I've never seen you play in person but watching your games on tv and online and it is crazy to think of how enthusiastic you are, even if you guys are losing you're always pushing your team to do better, to be happy because one loss isn't the end of it, ya'know?"
"Yo-You really think so?" Bokuto asked, peeking up at (f/n) through his lashes.
(f/n) hummed her agreement, smile wide. "And don't even get me started on how fit you are - like for real, it's probably not appropriate for me to talk about good looking I think you are, especially with my little brother and his best friend here."
Bokuto's smile was wide now, and his hair had visibly perked up at all of the compliments. "You've watched my matches online?"
(f/n) nodded excitedly. "I watch your school sometimes just to see you play - your presence on the court is overpowering, it's like you demand the attention - it's inspirational." They were smiling wide at each other for a few seconds before (f/n) realized she hadn't introduced herself yet. "Shit, right - I'm Yamaguchi (f/n), it's really nice to meet you, I've wanted to for a long time."
"Well, (f/n)," Bokuto said, throwing his arm around the girl's shoulders, "how about you watch my team play your guys'? They haven't beaten us once, are you ready to see them lose again?"
(f/n) wrapped her own arm around Bokuto's waist, her own smile spreading across her face. "I would love nothing more to watch you guys play, but watch yourself, Bokuto - my brother's serves aren't the only that has improved since you guys have last played each other."
Bokuto pumped his fist in the air, wooping loudly. "Yeah, let's get started!" When she looked back towards her brother, he sent her a wink and a thumbs up, and Kuroo was mouthing a thank you. Ukai declared they could start stretching, and Bokuto pulled away from (f/n) with that large smile on his face. "Gonna win this one for you, (f/n)!"
"I'll be watching you carefully, Bokuto."
