When Lev finally got his first girlfriend, he wasn't sure what to expect. Well, he knew what to expect from the girl - she was a lot like him - boisterous and enthusiastic and a little out there, and that's why he liked her- but he wasn't sure what to expect like, relationship wise.
He'd never had a girlfriend before, so he wasn't sure when it was okay for him to hold her hand or hug her or kiss her for the first time because how are you supposed to know those things? How was he supposed to know when (f/n) would be okay with his mouth on her mouth?
He wasn't sure. So, he asked her, straight up asked her when he would be able to kiss her, and (f/n) cried of laughter because god was Lev cute, and then she pulled him into a kiss, both of their first one, and Lev swore he fell in love with (f/n) that day.
He got better with the relationship stuff after that - he wasn't so quick to second guess himself anymore, and he didn't make it a habit to overthink everything he did, and it was pretty damn easy. (f/n)'s whole relationship outlook, one she'd built by watching her parents closely and reading a lot of fanfiction, was one that Lev adapted quickly, and they were doing things at their own pace in no time, talking when they were unsure.
It was a little messy, but it was very (f/n) and Lev.
He was still sometimes unsure of when he was allowed to do something, or when he was supposed to offer help to (f/n), but he knew that he was capable of protecting her from danger and that was all he really worried about. He was (f/n)'s big, tall, intimidating(questionable) boyfriend, and he was supposed to keep her safe and protect her.
And he always managed to protect her and help her and keep her safe - he was always walking her home when it was too dark and keeping away the creepy boys at school and giving her piggy back rides when she was too tired; Lev was a good boyfriend, always there to help when needed.
And he'd always thought he wouldn't need help in return, not in the same way. So, when (f/n) came to protect him one day, he was a little... unsure of how to feel about the situation.
He'd been getting picked on by some kids at school again, and while it wasn't an unusual occurrence for him, Lev was never really sure what to make of the situation. When you're extremely tall and rather awkward like Lev you're subject to many comments, and while he'd like to retaliate he 1.) wasn't really one for fighting and 2.) didn't want to get kicked off the volleyball team, so the half Russian was learning, slowly, to not pay any attention to the rude words.
But (f/n), ever overly eager to protect her boyfriend, wasn't going to let it fly.
"Hey," she said, pointing at the second year boys that were picking on her boyfriend. "How about you shut the hell up?"
The boys seemed taken back by her words, dumbfounded into standing and staring instead of replying. Lev was probably more surprised than the boys were, but he got over his surprise before they did, and he was setting his hands on (f/n)'s shoulders to calm her in no time. "Hey, it's okay," he said.
(f/n) frowned at her boyfriend. "No it's not! These people are being mean to you for no reason, Lev, and I'm not going to stand for it." She turned from her boyfriend to the second years, who were still standing dumbfounded. "Leave him alone! So what if he is way taller than everyone else here and a little clumsy? You would be a little clumsy too if you had such long limbs! Besides, he's got a heart three times the size of you two's combined, and he'd never stoop low enough to pick on others. So how about you be nice or shut up?"
The boys nodded, unsure of what else to do. (f/n) let her scowl soften a bit, but it didn't totally leave her face. "Good, now go away so my tall, awkward boyfriend and I can eat our lunch here in peace."

After that Lev was way happier than before - the two second years didn't pick on him anymore, and their friends had even backed off because they had heard of what happened. They weren't scared of (f/n), but they seemed to respect what she had said, and they'd rather not pick fights with a girl they could pummel into the ground.
It meant a lot to him that (f/n) would protect him - stand up for him - with such confidence when those boys could absolutely wreck her if they wanted to. But she stood up for him and glared at those boys and defend him without a second thought and that was amazing to him - he'd never felt like he needed to be protected, but it was good to know that somebody was there to protect him no matter what.
He started bragging about it because he was so damn happy, and while the members of the volleyball team didn't completely understand they didn't look down on him; they congratulated him on finding someone as good for him as (f/n), and that made Lev feel even better because he really didn't know what he did to land this girl that was just so perfect.
He let her know he felt that way, too, and told her over and over again how much he cared for her and how perfect he thought she was.

"(f/n)," Lev pouted, walking up to his girlfriend. His pout wasn't all that cute - not with all of his sharp features and pin-point cat like eyes - so the girl wasn't effected much. She shut her school book anyways and gave him her attention. "Yaku-San kicked me in the shin again."
(f/n) was rather amused at this but kept her smile in check by biting the inside of her cheek. "And what did you do to make Yaku-San kick you?"
Lev immediately grew distressed at the fact that he was being accused of doing something. "I didn't do anything! I told him that he was really strong for somebody his size an-"
"You deserved it," she concluded, getting back to studying because she really wanted to pass the test the next day.
"Why did I deserve it?" he screeched, longs arms thrown out to his sides.
(f/n) let her smirk cross her face this time. "You called him short - that's offensive to short people. Short people know they're short, Lev, that don't need tall assholes like you pointing it out to them. So," she said, shrugging her shoulders, "you deserved it."
Lev sat beside her, a small frown on his face. "So I've just gotta stop mentioning his height?"
(f/n) nodded and smiled. "Yupp! Then he won't kick you!"
Lev nodded and left his girlfriend alone on the bench, getting back to practice.
It was only a few minutes later that she heard Lev spouting off about Yaku's height again, and she rolled her eyes.
"Yaku-San," she said, and the elder boy looked over. "Kick him a little harder next time, maybe that will get your point across."
"(f/n)!" Lev shrieked, trying to stop the libero from kicking him again. "You're supposed to protect me!"
