Kuroo's first nightmare around (f/n) was a stressful experience for the both of them. (f/n) woke up to the sound of crying beside her, and turned to find Kuroo curled up sobbing, facing away from her. She thought it was a dream - well, more a weird nightmare of some sorts - but she got up to comfort him anyways, just in case it wasn't. And boy was she glad she did.

Kuroo tried to shy away, convince her that he was fine - he didn't like anybody seeing him like this, not even Kenma or his mother anymore. (f/n) pushed on - she didn't make him speak, just made him face her so she knew he was at least a little okay. She had him curl up into her, head in her neck and legs curled up into hers.

He probably looked like a child, all 6+ feet of him curled up into a ball crying into his girlfriend's chest, but (f/n) didn't pay that much mind.

"I'm here," she said quietly to him, trying to fight the sleep in her body. "I'm here, you're okay," she promised. Kuroo knew it was right, knew that he wasn't in any danger, and he calmed down slowly.

He kept apologizing, kept telling (f/n) that he was sorry, oh god he was so sorry, that he didn't mean to do whatever it was he had in his nightmare. She told him it was okay, told him it wasn't his fault at all, and they fell asleep after half an hour longer of (f/n) reassuring Kuroo that everything would be okay.

When Kuroo was a child, he couldn't sleep without his mother beside him and a nightlight in the the wall. He had night terrors, was plagued with nights full of terrible dreams, leaving him afraid to sleep most of the time.

His night terrors mostly had gone away throughout the years, only plaguing him when he was unbelievably stressed or very sleep deprived. It was like his mind was punishing him for trying to accomplish things, for trying to get shit done.

Medication didn't work those times, but a nightlight in the wall and (f/n) by his side helped just as much as his mother did when he was younger.

This time though, (f/n) wasn't with him. He was alone in their bed in Tokyo while she was off visiting her family for a week. It was stupid that the first time he has a night terror in a year has to be the one time he isn't with the person who could help him.

He picked up his phone and typed in the number he knew better than his own, waiting for the woman to pick up.

"(f/n)," he said the second the phone stopped ringing.

"Tetsu, you okay?" (f/n) asked in a groggy voice. She could tell he wasn't, could hear it in his voice, but she had to ask anyways to be sure.

"Please talk to me, just talk," he pleaded, tears still streaming down his face. (f/n) gave herself a minute to wake up, sat up and took a drink of water before she was asking Kuroo what he wanted her to talk about. "Anything. Tell me about your parents or your sister or your cats. Tell me about your cats."

So, she did. (f/n) went on and on for an hour about her cats, the cats that used to sleep on top of Kuroo's chest when he and (f/n) would stay at the girl's home. She told him about how the cats had grown, aged, gotten way more fat, told Kuroo stories about how they'd followed her around that day and how she woke up the morning before with four cats in her bed.

After her cat stories she told her boyfriend about how her family was doing, how big her younger sister had gotten, how much she'd missed her mother's cooking and 'don't worry Kuroo, I'll bring you and Kenma both back some pie.'

Kuroo was snoring about forty minutes later, and (f/n) kept him on the phone so that he could wake her up if he woke up again and needed her.

When they had kids, their daughter got her father's disability to sleep normally at night. (f/n) didn't mind and instead put her decade of knowledge about this to use and settled the girl in between she and her husband, smiling wide at him.

"Which story this time?" she asked her daughter, running her fingers through her hair.

"Can you tell me the one about you and daddy meeting again?" the girl asked quietly, tears still in her eyes.

"Of course," (f/n) said, and she started the story with ease, Kuroo coming in for his parts, smile wide and voice excited as they told their daughter the story she always wanted to hear.

Their daughter was asleep in no time, and (f/n) and Kuroo kissed once before lying on either side of her. It was a little uncomfortable, but (f/n) didn't mind - she'd do anything to take care of the people she cared about, especially her family.
