(f/n) really shouldn't have been surprised. It was the ninth time - that month - that she'd been locked out of her dorm room so her roommate could have sex with her boyfriend. They were a cute couple most of the time, hand holding and Eskimo kisses and a crazy amount of cuteness, but when they holed up in the dorm, stopping (f/n) from being able to study or watch netflix on her computer or fucking sleep, they were anything but cute.
It had happened a lot, so she shouldn't be surprised. She was surprised, though, because she wasn't good at seeing the nasty in people. Her roommate promised she'd go somewhere else, promised they would have sex somewhere else so (f/n) could actually sleep in her bed like she was supposed to, and (f/n) should have known that was a damn lie.
She didn't have anywhere else to go; she wasn't good at communicating with most people, her social anxiety was extremely crippling, preventing her from conversations with most people, even ones she saw most days.
So, (f/n) was stuck in the common room of the dorms at midnight for the ninth time that month, laptop dying on the table in front of her because she had forgotten to grab her charger before leaving her dorm that morning.
It was hell - she was still stuck in a pair of uncomfortable pants and a shirt that wasn't fighting off the coolness of the building well enough, her phone was already dead and her laptop on it's way there, the book in her purse one she'd already reread that week.
She had no ability to stand up for herself though - over the years her self-esteem hadn't grown at all, even shrinking a bit at times. She was a 21 year old with the lack of ability to tell somebody when they were doing her wrong, and it was annoying that he mind stopped her from doing these things. She had started to build it up - was happy with herself and where her life was going, but then she was brutally dumped, cheated on and left with pieces of her life to pick up on her own.
"(l/n)?" The girl looked up to see a semi-familiar face, Kozume Kenma standing behind her.
"O-Oh, Kozume," she said just as quietly as he had. He looked expectantly at her socked feet beside her shoes on the floor and her laptop on the table still playing 'Friends' on Netflix. "Uh, my roommate is -" she flushed, looking down at her hands on the table. She wasn't sure how to finish that sentence, not wanting to say anything too vulgar, or anything remotely vulgar at all. "She's busy, so I'm locked out."
"Oh," the boy said.
His hair was no longer two colors, like it had been when he and (f/n) started college together but was now dyed back to it's normal black color, hanging a bit longer to better hide his features. They'd talked before a few times in the couple of classes they shared but never enough to get to know each other - all they knew about each other was that they both were rather quiet, and that was enough to know.
"Well, my roommate is out for the next week if you want to come up to my dorm for the night." (f/n) was shocked to hear the offer, something Kenma must have realized. "You could sleep on Kuro's bed if you want; it's clean, hasn't been slept in in about a week."
"That wouldn't be a problem with you?"
Kenma shook his head. "I was just going to go play games all night, I can do that just as fine with you there."
Then began the silent trek back to Kenma's dorm. It was nice, the quiet. (f/n) hadn't ever been around someone like her, somebody who was so content with silence, and it was a little awkward for her at first. She kept stuttering out sentences, asking Kenma embarrassing questions, trying to make herself seem more interesting to someone that already found her interesting.
"You don't have to talk if you don't want to," he told her while digging in his pockets for his keys. "I like the silence just as much as you do."
(f/n) was relieved by that and shut up immediately, her fingers letting go of the string on her t-shirt they'd been pulling on. It was a nervous habit she'd had forever, fingers picking and pulling on anything they could find for a sort of distraction.
