This one hints at Kyoutani having a bad home life. Nothing bad at all just hints.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When (f/n) woke up to her phone going off, she wasn't going to bother with it. It was probably weird messages from Watari or Yahaba who woke up, sent a message, and then fell back to sleep. It had happened before, more times than she'd care to admit, especially during the finals week that she and Yahaba were sending each other answers and tips on their homework.
So it wasn't important. Well, it wasn't until her phone went of more than once, in a pattern that she knew wasn't a call, but she knew it was important. When her phone first lit up, it nearly blinded her. She had to rub her eyes and blink multiple times before she could see, the time on her phone reading fifteen minutes after midnight.
She unlocked her phone and viewed all twenty-three messages from her best friend, immediately waking up. The first seven were standard - Kyoutani telling (f/n) to wake up, because he knew it would take more than just one message. The next four could probably be considered threats, though (f/n) knew to think nothing of it, since she'd known Kyoutani for so long. The remaining ones - twelve messages - were him struggling to ask (f/n) to meet him at the park.
He never was good at asking for help with things, but after ten years of being the closest thing to a friend Kyoutani could have, (f/n) knew how to read him. He would demand her presence when he needed her, saying that if he was alone too long he'd probably punch another hole in the wall of his house, something she knew was true, but only to a certain extent.
She knew what he needed when he would call her in the middle of the night, claiming that he knew she needed somebody to talk to, but she never questioned or talked against it. She never told him she knew he needed it when she brought him lunches to school, never asked him about the bruises on his face when she covered them - she just let him be him, knowing that's what he needed. If he wanted to talk he would have, and he knew he could.
So, she didn't question him and texted him back, telling him that she'd be to the park in just a few minutes. His reply was just the word 'good' which (f/n) had been expected.
After she slid on a sweater, some sweats, and her shoes, (f/n) walked out of her front door. Once she was on the sidewalk she started to jog, knowing that getting to the park as quick as she could would be important. She made it there only four minutes later, spotting Kyoutani already sat on the bench.
Once she was beside the bench she flopped onto it, trying to get her breath back.
"You should work out more," Kyoutani commented, not even turning to look at the girl beside him. "If just running here from your house makes you that out of breath, you must be real out of shape."
(f/n) rolled her eyes and pushed her right shoulder against Kyoutani's left one. "I don't want to be in shape," she replied, a smile crossing her face. "I wanna sit at home after school and watch anime. The only shape I wanna be is in a ball on my couch."
Kyoutani rolled his eyes at these sentences, but he felt his body relaxing, the tension seeping away slowly. His gaze finally moved from the swings across the park to the girl beside him, who was breathing normally now. She smiled wide at him, as that was the only thing she could think to do in the moment, and was pleased when Kyoutani let the ever resting scowl on his face fade for a moment.
"There we are," she said, leaning in to pinch his cheeks. He frowned at that but didn't move to push her hands away, instead allowing the warmth from her fingers to warm his face a little. (f/n) noticed his lack of jacket and frowned a little, wondering just how bad he had needed to get out of the house. "You're lucky this is your sweater," she mumbled, pulling her hands back to begin peeling the sweater off of her body.
It wasn't crazy cold out, but it was a little nippy, and Kyoutani being out in the cold with just a muscle tee and shorts on wasn't good for his - or (f/n)'s - health. He almost protested, almost told (f/n) to stop being such a dumbass and keep the sweater on, but a breeze blew past and caused the boy to shiver slightly, and he accepted the sweater with an annoyed 'thanks.'
They sat in silence again, Kyoutani moving an inch or two closer to (f/n) to keep her as warm as possible against the wind. It wouldn't have been noticeable to many people, but (f/n) accepted the gesture with a small smile and leaned a bit more into him, enjoying the warmth.
After about ten minutes of silence (f/n) looked up to Kyoutani, a concerned look on her face.
"You could come back to my house if you want to," she said quietly, keeping a close eye on Kyoutani's expression. "You know my mom wouldn't mind," she added, not wanting to say too much and make the boy uncomfortable.
"I've gotta be home when they wake up," he said, his voice leveled and gruff as usual. (f/n) nodded in understanding, not pushing any further.
"Well, I wanna stay here longer, if you don't mind," (f/n) said to him with a small smile. She really didn't want to stay there; she was tired and a little cold and wanted nothing more than to go curl up in her bed at home where she'd be safe and warm.
But she was sure that Kyoutani wanted to stay longer, even if he didn't admit it.
"Yeah, if that's what you want," he said in a voice far less gruff than usual, and he relaxed more into the bench.
(f/n) decided to just let them go on in silence, knowing that Kyoutani probably just wanted to sit there, be in silence that he could never be in at home. He grumbled out a few sentences here and there - how stupid Oikawa had been at practice that afternoon and how much he was looking forward to the spring high preliminaries and how annoyed he was with some kid on the train earlier on his way home because he wouldn't give his seat to an old woman.
(f/n) listened to all of his stories and replied with what she thought was appropriate, never too detailed a response or agreement. After he'd finished cursing about the kid on the bus (f/n) decided to change the subject, not wanting him to get too angry.
"What do we want for lunch today/tomorrow?" she asked, crossing her arms in front of her chest to try and fight the cold.
"What you made on Monday was pretty good," he replied, quickly going to say something else afterwards. "But I don't really give a shit, make whatever you want."
(f/n) laughed at this; she found it funny that even after ten years Kyoutani still had walls she needed to tear down and get around in order to have him just be himself. "What I made on Monday it is," she said, rubbing her arms to warm them up a bit.
Kyoutani sighed and stood up. "I'm getting cold," he said, letting his hand go to the back of his head to scratch it. "Jog home and text me when you get there." (f/n) stood up and smiled slightly at her friend.
"Will do, sir Kentarou. Thank you for meeting me tonight, and I'll see you tomorrow."
He watched her walk until he couldn't see her anymore, and then turned around and walked to his own home, more relaxed than he ever thought he could be walking back that hell.
extended ending thing:
(f/n) walked to her locker later that morning, dark bags under her eyes and a tired swing in her step. Upon opening the metal box she was met with a folded sweater, the one she'd given to Kyoutani hours before. A small note was sat on the shelf of her a locker, and a smile spread across her face when she read the words 'thank you' sprawled on it in Kyoutani's messy handwriting.
She stared at the note until the bell rang, and she put it in her bag carefully after that, planning to hang it when she got back home.
She knew that was all she was going to get from Kyoutani for now, and that was more than okay with her. It was a big step for him - more than just a thank you for letting him wear the jacket; it was a thank you for being there, being a friend, not asking him why he was cold or distant or mean, because she understood.
(f/n) understood him and cared for him, and that was all that mattered.
