soulmate au in which there is a barrier around your skin a millimeter thick that only your soulmate can feel through. like it isn't that noticeable but you can't feel anyone's skin except for your soulmate's

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was odd really, to think that nobody ever really was touching each other. Handshakes, hugs, even kisses, there was a millimeter wide barrier around every person in the world, and the only people who could touch skin to skin were soulmates. No touches from parents or best friends, high school sweethearts or even the people you end up marrying when you can't find your soulmate.
It's never anything (f/n) thought much of, or anyone else in the world for that matter. It's something they all grow to be used to; until they meet their soulmate - if they ever do - they never get to experience it, this is the normal for them all.
And though (f/n) loved the idea of meeting her soulmate, she wasn't keen on touching people she didn't know. The normal brushing of shoulders happened, especially because (f/n) lived in Tokyo, but aside from that she avoided touching anybody she didn't have to touch.
The boys on the volleyball team she managed had a game of sorts they played, though, where they tried to touch everyone they met. It was always just a touch on the shoulder, so as to not completely creep people out, but they were extremely hyped up about it. They made sure to high five every player on every team they played against, found excuses to shake hands with the managers, and touched the shoulders of everyone they passed in the hallways of the school.
The first years and a couple of the second years kept track of all the people they managed to touch everyday, comparing numbers at practice, making sure they would be the first one to find their soulmate. That being said, over the last year and a half of being the manager for Nekoma High School Volleyball Club, (f/n) had been coerced into the games of the club, and had eventually come to shake hands with all of the boys on the team - this proving that her soulmate wasn't on the Nekoma team.
That was fine with her though - she was still young, with plenty of time to find her soulmate. She wasn't in a rush like the boys were, didn't have a mental count of how many strangers she had made contact with like them, didn't go out of her way to touch anyone like they did. If it happens eventually then (f/n) will be happy, but she wasn't going to go out of her way for it.
"(f/n)-San, tell Hinata about why you won't try harder to meet your soulmate!" Lev yelled, spitting watermelon seeds out in the process.
Lev was sitting with Kenma and Hinata on the ground at the bottom of the hill, all three with pieces of watermelon in their hands. "Because making contact with strangers isn't something I'm fond of, Haiba-Kun," she replied, the plate of watermelon triangles in her hands almost empty.
"Ugh, (f/n)-San, I told you to just call me Lev!" the tall boy exclaimed. "See, Hinata, she is more like Kenma-Kun than she is like us."
Hinata smiled, spitting out seeds before smiling wide at the girl. "There isn't anything wrong with that, (f/n)-san, don't let Lev get you down!"
The girl smiled in response, and after nodding her head she walked towards another group of boys. "More?" she asked.
The boys from Karasuno smiled, a mixture of first and second years, and all turned it down. "Awe, come on Tsukki, you don't want a second piece?"
The boy, Tsukki, seemed annoyed with his friend's pestering, because he reached out for another slice without focusing enough and his hand brushed (f/n)'s.
It was a shock for (f/n) when she actually felt his skin on her's and not the feeling of a thin barrier. The plate of watermelon was dropped out of her hand, but before she could say anything the players were being called back in for the next round. The Karasuno boy with freckles bent down to pick up the plate and slices of watermelon before (f/n) could react, and the other boys were already walking away.
"I'm so sorry that Tsukki did that, he is having a hard time in the heat," the boy with the freckles said, placing the plate back in her hands.
She stood their confused. Did she just imagine it? Or was the boy just too nervous like his friend said?
"(f/n)-San!" The girl turned to see Yachi, looking at her confused. "Are you alright?"
The older girl nodded, trying to keep her hands steady on the plate.
'Don't worry about it, (f/n),' she thought to herself, walking towards the cafeteria. 'You've got a couple days to find out still.'
She'd mentioned it to Kenma, since that was her best friend, and had him promise to keep it quiet. He agreed that he would, though (f/n) knew that Kuroo didn't count, and they left it alone for the rest of the day.
It was the next night that (f/n) got to see Tsukki again, and it was the first time she really got to look at him. He was tall, with shaggy blonde hair and brown eyes. His glasses almost always had a glare on them, and his face seemed to be set in a scowl. 'But, he was practicing extra for a reason,' (f/n) thought, watching as Bokuto and Kuroo picked on the first year.
After they all left to get into their positions, Kuroo sent a wink (f/n)'s way, and the girl rolled her eyes before tossing the ball to Akaashi so he could set it for Bokuto. Bokuto spiked it, sending it straight into Kuroo's palms and then back onto the ground next to Bokuto. They did this over and over again, Kuroo showing the kid little tricks to completely shut down Bokuto and any other spiker he may find himself across the net from.
It was about 20 minutes before Kuroo asked (f/n) to bring over their water bottles, and she did so without a second thought - it's what she was there for most of the time. She handed Akaashi his, and then Bokuto, and went back to grab the other two before going to the other side of the net. Kuroo got his first, and then the other blocker, who didn't even look at (f/n).
It broke her heart a bit, and she decided to give up for the night. "I'm going to head to be-" before she could turn around to leave, she felt herself being nudged towards Tsukki, and he was dropping his water bottle in order to support her.
It was the same sensation as before, his hands were resting on her biceps and her own grabbing the fabric of his shirt. She looked up to meet his eyes, and there was a blush on his cheeks. "I wasn't sure earlier," he mumbled, making sure (f/n) was stable before pulling his hands back to push up his glasses.
"I wasn't either." They stood there, staring at each other, before Kuroo was cheering.
"Wait-" Bokuto shouted, running over to the younger students. "Is this really happening right now?" Kuroo nodded excitedly. "BRO! You knew about this and you didn't tell me?"
Kuroo put his hands up, the smile not leaving his face. "I was entrusted with the secret."
"Technically you weren't," (f/n) mumbled, and that caused Kuroo to deflate.
The two older boys were still gawking, talking about how happy they were for their kouhai. (f/n) rolled her eyes, bending over to pick up Tsukki's water bottle before she handed it to him. "I'm (l/n) (f/n)," she said, the excitement dying down for them and just turning into awkwardness.
"Tsukishima Kei," he said, sticking his hand out. (f/n) took it, the feel of flesh agaisnt her own still not something she was sure she could get used to. "How about I walk you back to the dorms?"
(f/n) smiled and nodded, letting her hand drop from his. "I would like that a lot." They started walking out together, followed by the sound of their Senpai cheering for them, and Akaashi telling the two to shut the hell up.
