(f/n) wasn't sure what compelled her to join the yearbook club - she wasn't a giant fan of taking photos, nor very good at it if she was being honest, and it seemed maybe a little boring to her. But she had to join a club, and she was looking for something rather laid back and easy, something that she wouldn't have to talk to too many people to be a part of, and (f/n) figured yearbook committee was perfect for those circumstances -
She was wrong, oh so wrong.
It was only two weeks into the club - the first two were spent learning how to use the cameras properly and touching up on editing skills - that (f/n) was given her first assignment.
"Take a group photo of the volleyball team - you've just got to be sure to capture all of the players, the manager, and their adviser and coach. Also, be sure to write down all of their names and confirm that they're all spelled correctly."
While it sounded easy in practice - one picture of a group of students and their adviser, piece of cake -, it ended up one of the most eventful times of (f/n)'s first year of high school.
*****
She could tell the bunch was lively from her place outside of the gym.
The door was opened and a screen of sorts was hanging over the entryway, (f/n) guessing to keep bugs out and the volleyballs in. From her place on the steps she could hear the enthusiastic shouts, smell the sweat, feel the excitement, and it made her want to turn around and not come back.
How would she explain that, though? Would her club adviser understand? Maybe it wasn't too late for her to switch clubs - she could join the cooking club or the sewing club. She wasn't that talented, but maybe she could learn to draw or paint better if she joined the art club. It probably wouldn't make her counselor very happy, if she decided to switch after completing all of the paperwork, and she wasn't very good with confrontation. Maybe she would just explain that she wasn't as interested as before, or may-
"Daichi-San, is this the girl that you told us was coming to take our picture today?"
(f/n) had been so caught up in her thoughts that she hadn't realized the club had noticed she was there, and two - very, very excited and sweaty - volleyball players were standing directly in front of her, separated only by the flimsy screen.
"Umm, i-if this is a bad time I can come back, or-"
"No no," someone, a male much more buff than the other two, said. He grabbed the two that were in (f/n)'s face by their shirts and pulled them back. "Excuse them, they're just very excited for the team to have it's own page in the yearbook this year."
(f/n) didn't voice a reply and instead just nodded shyly, before another boy, one much less intimidating and annoyed looking, was pulling open the screen for her to step into the stuffy gym. "If you would like to go speak with her Kiyoko has prepared a list with all of the members names on it for you, to make your job much easier," he said, smile bright. "You should be done with that by the time we finish up this practice match, and then you can get the group photo."
