If anyone were ever to ask Akaashi, he'd say he goes to the small diner nearly every other day because it had the world's greatest milkshakes and the people working there actually knew how to deal with the crazy orders Bokuto put in. And those are the exact things he told Bokuto when the older boy asked why Akaashi always insisted on that diner for after practice snacks. But, it wasn't completely the truth.

True, their milkshakes were to die for - any flavor he ever ordered was better than the last and he probably shouldn't consume as many as he had - and yeah they were really good at keeping up with Bokuto's odd orders and they never questioned why he wanted the weird ass food combinations he wanted, but that wasn't it, it would probably never be it.

It was her - the girl behind the counter, no older than Akaashi, only working there because it was her parent's small diner, family owned and run for as long as it had been opened. It was the girl he'd come to know as (f/n) because of how often he'd started coming in.

Her smiles always seemed to light up the small diner, now matter how cliche or over the top that sounded, and her voice was always so damn smooth that Akaashi visibly relaxed when she would ask if he wanted the usual. (A plain chocolate milkshake.) And on the days he said he'd like to change it up and ordered something different it was her laugh that made Akaashi get goosebumps because it was literally music to his ears.

But mostly, it was the stupid napkins.

It had started a day after a grueling practice, and Akaashi had gone in alone because Bokuto was at the beginning of one of his downswings and wanted to be alone, and he was absolutely exhausted. (f/n), the perfect sales woman she is, noticed immediately. She asked Akaashi if he was okay, and he waved it off just saying that he was tired.

He hadn't ordered a milkshake that day because he wanted to stop by Bokuto's house and make sure he was okay before going back to his own home, so he ordered himself some coffee and a piece of pie for Bokuto - something he was sure would make the older boy cry of happiness.

(f/n) read the situation and didn't question it, instead got what Akaashi had ordered and gave it to him.

It was only when Akaashi was walking from the diner to the train that he realized (f/n) had drawn something on the side of the coffee cup. It was a cute little doodle of what Akaashi guessed was supposed to be he and Bokuto. (f/n) had written "I hope you two get better soon" below it, a smiley face following it.

He smiled the rest of the way to Bokuto's despite the situation, and the matching note on the napkin for Bokuto's pie made the ace perk up, and he actually did end up crying.

The next day when they came in (f/n) gave them their order with a note on the napkin, and the same thing followed every other day Akaashi went into the small diner.

Bokuto started to see through Akaashi's bluff pretty quickly after the napkins started - he was a pretty observant person, so the small changes in Akaashi's attitude and demeanor upon entering the diner didn't pass by him. And while Akaashi didn't physically perk up upon seeing (f/n), something did always change in his eyes, and Bokuto pointed it out the second he was sure it was all (f/n)'s doing.

"You like her!" he said, voice loud and smile wide. They were only a few steps away from the diner, and the amount of people that turned to see the two after hearing Bokuto shout made Akaashi flush a deep shade of red.

"Bokuto-San!" he hissed, his ears warm from embarrassment. "Please, keep quiet."

Bokuto did quiet down, but he didn't wipe that smug look off of his face. "Ohoho, Akaashi's got a crush! It's about damn time that someone has caught your interests! So, what is it about her? The way she makes your milkshakes? Her hair? Are you into girls with (your hair color yooo) hair? Or is it her eyes? Come on Akaashi, you've gotta tell me, we can talk about girls together now!"

Akaashi looked down and shrugged, his ears still pink because this was an awkward topic for him - Bokuto was right, Akaashi had never really been that interested in a certain girl before, and he wasn't sure exactly how to talk to his friend about it.

"It's kind of everything," he mumbled, his voice just loud enough so that he knew Bokuto could hear it. "She's always so bright, even when it's obvious she's exhausted, and she is always writing cute notes and sketches on the napkins, and I just think she's really great."

Bokuto lit up at Akaashi's admittance, his eyes wide and his smile even wider. "Akaashi this is great! You need to tell her that you like her! She obviously likes you too since she's always writing you cute little notes and making your milkshakes the best she can!"

Akaashi shook his head, "I don't want to - if she doesn't like me back then I'll have to go to a different diner, and I'd much rather just admire her from afar."

Bokuto deflated but didn't push the matter.

*****

It was two days later when Akaashi was walking into the diner, since he couldn't go every single day, and he was met with (f/n)'s wide smile like usual.

"Would you like the usual, Akaashi?" the girl asked, already holding her pen to write down his order.

"Yes please," he said, reaching into his pocket to pull out his wallet. He paid and walked to sit down after (f/n) promised to bring himhis shake when it was done.

She did as she said and brought out the shake when she'd finished making it, the characteristically large smile on her face.

"I hope you enjoy it," she said before walking away.

Akaashi looked at the napkin after the first mouthful of milkshake, and he almost spit it out after reading the napkin.

Your friend Bokuto came in after you guys left yesterday and told me you liked me - if that's true feel free to call me :)

Her number was written below the words, and Akaashi could feel the heat radiating off of his cheeks as he pulled out his phone and put the number into it. He sent (f/n) a simple 'hello' before finishing his milkshake and moving to leave to diner. He felt his phone buzz right before he was walking out the door, and he read the simple message before looking up to see (f/n) smiling and waving at him.

He blushed again before leaving the diner, his cheeks pink and his heart fluttering. He stopped by the corner store to get something for Bokuto - he owed him.
