"So, (f/n)," Oikawa started in a cheeky voice, his smile wide and mischievous. "When are you and this boy finally going to make it official?"
That question didn't really take (f/n) by surprise - she and Kuroo had been out on quite a few dates, and they'd shared a few harmless kisses over the span of those dates, but they hadn't really talked about making it official. Well, (f/n) hadn't.
It was obvious that's what Kuroo wanted, and (f/n) wanted it too, but she was so, so confused with the situation. Kuroo was more than (f/n) had ever had to deal with and at the same time so much less.
All her old boyfriends had been childish and immature despite the fact that they were all college students now. They all wanted to party and get drunk and do stupid shit. And while (f/n) certainly didn't hate doing stupid shit sometimes, she didn't want to do stupid shit every night she had free from homework or actual work.
When Kuroo first came along (f/n) figured he was like all the other boys - he'd asked her on a date, and she said yes because it was harmless really. She didn't have to see him again if the date went terribly, and if it went well then that was great. But Kuroo showed up with a large smile on his face and actually took (f/n) out on a planned date - dinner at a restaurant - not a fast food place - and a quaint walk through the park by the river.
He dropped (f/n) off at her dorm and left her with a kiss on the cheek, unlike all the other boys that were usually over eager to get into (f/n)'s dorm with her.
She hadn't been sure if she should have been flattered or insulted. Was Kuroo not interested in her after their date? Or was he so interested in her that he didn't want to ruin it with a pointless hookup?
She didn't have to think about it long because Kuroo was calling her only two days later asking for a date the upcoming Saturday. He didn't care about looking desperate or clingy for calling only a couple of days afte the first date. He liked her, and he was taught to embrace himself when he liked something, not caring if it made him look a little too clingy or a little to into her.
So now she was stuck in a place she didn't know how to get out of. Yeah, she could date Kuroo and be happy, but she was a mess sometimes, and she didn't want to potentially scare Kuroo away.
"I don't know," she said to Oikawa, her face showing how unsure she was. "Like, I know I'm cool as fuck, and I know I'm good enough for Kuroo, but I'm not sure if he can handle me when I get a little too excited or sad or mad."
Oikawa furrowed his brows at his friend. "Kuroo is being awfully gentlemanly with you, (f/n), and he will always treat you this right, but he is also kind of a mess. Everyone has their bad moments, and Kuroo has his just as often as you." (f/n) started to think of all of the things that could potentially make him childish.
"And what if I can't handle him?"
Oikawa smiled. "You won't have to handle him, (f/n)! Kuroo definitely has times when he is pretty damn childish, but he can take care of himself. After being on the same team as him for two years I know this - he is secretly the mom of our team. He'll help take care of you when you ask him to, and he'll let you take care of yourself when you need it. He will respect you so, so much (f/n). Kuroo isn't a total adult, but he's not a douche or an asshole, and he knows how to treat a lady."
(f/n) made up her mind then and thanked Oikawa before making her way out of the small cafe and towards Kuroo's dorm room.
*****
She barely got to knock three times before Kuroo was opening the door to his dorm, a tired look on his face - of course he'd been napping. He immediately perked up upon seeing (f/n), a sleepy smile crossing his face. "Hey (f/n), what's brought you to my humble abode?"
"Umm I just thought I should tell you some things about me?" she said, and when Kuroo made no move to protest she continued. "Well, sometimes I'll go a long time between shaving my legs," she started, a serious look on her face. "I get really emotional over anime, and I get way too attached to all of the fictional characters. I still sleep with a teddy bear, but that's only because my grandma gave it to me and I used to think he protected me from monsters."
Kuroo listened to her go on for a few minutes, a small smile on his face. (f/n) was different from the girls he usually dated too. She was a little more out there and a little less sure, but he liked her a lot, and this gesture just made him more sure of the situation.
"I sing a lot of Disney music," (f/n) admitted after many other embarrassing confessions. "Like a lot, Kuroo. I listen to the Disney Pandora radio almost every day, an-"
"Will you be my girlfriend?" (f/n) stared at Kuroo with a surprised expression, which caused the man to smile wide. "Only if you wanna, of course, but you coming her to admit your flaws to me seemed more like a form of affection than of rejec-"
"Yes," (f/n) said, still stuck on the question. A smile crossed her face and she started nodding her head. "Yeah, I'll be your girlfriend."
Kuroo let the smile on his face grow relaxed again, the sleep sinking back into him now that he'd gotten the question out of the way. "Cool," he said casually, and (f/n) was smiling like an idiot. They stood together for a few more minutes, talking about a few things before (f/n) stepped back.
"Well, I should probably get back to Oikawa because I left his ass all alone at the cafe."
All (f/n)'s old boyfriends had been pretty jealous of the relationship between the girl and the setter, but Kuroo understood it more than pretty much anyone. "Tell the idiot I say hello," Kuroo said. He leaned in and kissed (f/n)'s forehead before going back into his dorm, and (f/n) walked back to the cafe slowly, a rather lovesick smile on her face.
When she finally made it back to the cafe Oikawa was sitting casually where (f/n) had left him. When he looked up from his phone to see her he perked up, a friendly smile on his face.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" he asked as (f/n) sat down across from him.
"Yeah, I have a boyfriend."
Oikawa raised his hand for a high five and cheered loudly, attracting the attention of the other cafe patrons. (f/n) paid them no mind and high fived her friend back, hoots leaving her as they were leaving him.
She was damn excited - (f/n) had a boyfriend, one that would know how to treat her correctly, one that she could have adult conversations with, and she deserved to celebrate that.
