"When Barry held out his hands to give me a hug, I noticed something strange. I noticed the shape of the wedding band, the same shape of the mark on my hand. And even scarier, when I gave him a hug, his collar loosened, and I could see everything: the scratch marks...the hickeys...the lipstick stains...All present on his chest. The craziest part: It all matched mine."
~~~~~~~
I then pulled away from the hug quickly and took a step back. I straightened out my shirt and tucked my long brown hair behind my ear. I tried my hardest to flash Barry a small smile, but it just made things even more awkward. To avoid making this situation even worse, I quickly turned around and walked to my desk. What I wasn't expecting was that I felt a hand tug at my sleeve. I turned around to see Barry's outstretched hand, wedding band and all, gripping my sleeve.
"Chloe, is everything alright?" Barry asked as I turned to face him once again. I pulled my sleeve away as Iris joined Barry's side. She wrapped her arm around Barry's and smiled widely, looking all around the room.
"Joyous day, isn't it?" She asked, giving me her biggest smile. My eyes began to water once more and I nodded, turning on my heel and walking downstairs to the workshop, where I could be alone. I sat there pondering my future and how this could be. "Barry was married. He had already found the love of his life...This has to be a mistake." And that's how I felt about the whole situation. After that realization, I continued to think it was a mistake. I ignored Barry in every way I could possible. The team took notice, but I didn't care. Barry and Iris continued to live their fairy tale life, while I was sitting back and enjoying my own company. After a while, Barry couldn't take that, and I could tell the team couldn't either.
"Chloe, can I speak to you?" Barry asked, standing infront of my desk.
"Ofcourse you can...You're doing it right now. I see you're fully capable." I crossed my arms over my chest and put my DNA charts down.
"I mean in private." Barry gave me a stern look, and I decided to give him a chance to explain himself with a long sigh. We walked down to the pipeline, Barry leading the way. We settled down on a spot and Barry motioned for me to sit. He sat down beside me and I shuffled awkwardly at the conversation we were about to have.
"What's up with you?" Barry asked. "You've been all over the place lately. Everywhere but where I am..."
"You wanna know why I'm ignoring you?" I asked. Barry gave a small nod and I took a long breath. "I don't want to ruin your future...You and Iris."
"What are you talking about?" Barry asked. "There's no way you could. You wouldn't, anyway. It's not like you."
"Maybe I wouldn't, but the universe would," I said with a sigh. Barry looked at me, puzzled. His hands danced around in his lap awkwardly. I exhaled before holding up my hand and took off my ring, which was covering the band spot. Barry looked at it and shook his head with squinted eyes.
"A suntan from your ring? How does that--" Barry said before I tugged at the bottom of my shirt and lifted it up.
"I don't think we should," Barry said, standing up and holding his hands.
"I'm not seducing you," I said, standing up and pointing to the marks on my stomach. After he examined them, I moved my hair away from my neck to reveal the hickeys, the ones identical to Barry's. He still didn't understand the connection.
"What's the point of all this?."
"I'm your soulmate," I mumbled, keeping my eyes locked on the ground. Barry scoffed and turned his head to face away from me. "I'm being honest with you, Barry." A tear fell from my eye and I looked up at Barry slowly. He shook his head once again.
"You're just trying to mess with my head, so you can have me all to yourself." Barry covered his mouth with his hands as a tear escaped his eye.
"Bar, I'm being 100% honest with you. Every mark you get on your skin, I get. Every mark I get on my skin, you get. It's how the whole 'soulmate' thing works."
"I don't believe in some old fable thing."
"It's true. What do I have to do to prove it to you?" I yelled. Barry looked back at me and I fell to the floor, sobbing. "This is exactly why I didn't want to tell you. Ruin your marriage and your life...I knew you'd act like this...I should have never told you," I said, standing up and storming out of the pipeline. I quickly ran up to the cortex to grab my belongings, the whole team looking at me. Ignoring their gestures, I grabbed my bag from Cisco's hand and walked home. I spent the rest of that day staying in. I ordered takeout and watched tv for the rest of the night.
It was 11:00 pm and I was expecting a pizza delivery. I sat on the couch, stomach grumbling, as Rick and Morty played. I was taken away from my marathon when I heard a knock on my door. I got up, grabbed the money I had prepared, and opened the door to find a pizza delivery boy, one I didn't expect: Barry. He held out the pizza and smiled.
"Heard you had an order..."
"I didn't order a pizza with a side of crazy sauce, did I?" I asked, Barry laughing.
"I'm assuming I'm the crazy sauce."
"Yes, you are," I said, ripping the pizza from his grasp and closing the door. The door then shot back at me when Barry speedily put his foot in the door. With an eye roll, I let Barry come in. I shut the door after him, plopping down on the couch with my pizza. I ate a slice as Barry began to speak:
"I wanted to tell you I'm sorry."
"For what? Getting mad at me for no reason? For not believing me when I was telling the absolute truth? For making me look like a home wrecker infront of the whole team?"
"Yes, for all of it. I should have believed you..."
"So why are you here? What are you getting out of this?"
"I broke off the marriage with Iris," I perked up, feeling shocked with a slight bit of guilt. "I didn't want her hanging on to something that was doomed to fail."
"So why are you here?" I asked.
"To get what I'm destined for," Barry said, leaning in and kissing my lips. My stomach flipped and my heart felt like it was bound to burst out of my chest at any second. I never felt this way about Barry before, but now that I knew this was how my life was supposed to be, those feelings suddenly emerged. We continued to kiss, our mouths working together in perfect synch, as if they were puzzle pieces. We pulled away finally, both of us smiling widely.
Barry then looked away for a second, as if thinking about something important. When he looked back at me, he asked a question I never thought I'd hear, at least for a long time: "So how about we get married? Tonight...."
