Mello pov

Matt was playing games on the couch when I got back.

"Where's L?" I asked.

"He's gone out on a date with Light." He answered without looking up.

"Already?" I looked at my watch. I'd been gone hours.

"Oh. Where did they go?"

He glanced up. "I don't know, Mello. I'm not his mother."

I went to my room, stopping to grab some chocolate from the kitchen on the way.

I sat down at my desk and took my files from the Kira case out so I could look over them. I couldn't sit still so I moved them all over to the bed and tried to study them there.

But something was nagging at me and I couldn't ignore it. I needed to know L was safe. I could call him on a date if I was worried, right?

I tried but his phone was switched off. I didn't have Light's number, obviously. Dammit, why hadn't I kept L in my sight, or demanded to know Light's phone number and address?

I didn't like this, I didn't like it at all. My ears were still ringing from the wind, like bells. I knew something bad was happening.

I can't control it, I can't control anything. I'm useless.
