Crap, this isn't good.

While Kenji was guarding us, I managed to get Whitney in the back of the shop so she could be safe. Once I knew she was safe, I ran out to the front to see what was going on.

Billy and David were fighting each other. Kenji remained defensive if David was coming for me.

David swung his sword at Billy while Billy kept dodging it. The entire shop was getting destroyed as the two killers for hire duked it out.

"Why are you getting in my way, Billy?" David asked.

"Sorry but I have my reasons," Billy told him.

"I'm guessing that's why you declined Zane's bounty on Shoda Yuuto? What is this man hanging over you that's making you do this?"

"Nothing really. He actually kept me from getting killed by Hazel when I failed to kill him. He didn't want to kill me and paid me to go away."

"His bounty is bigger than yours! I thought you were a money grubbing outlaw!"

"I am but trust me when I say Shoda Yuuto isn't worth the money."

Was he complimenting me? I don't know how to react to that.

The two killers continued to fight until Billy decided to go on the defensive this time. He took out some ancient short sword and attempted to cut David.

David managed to dodge and kick Billy away. The two killers were at a standstill.

Billy's weapon looked pretty cool though. There seemed to be inscriptions on the blade but I can't tell what type.

His weapon is obviously enchanted because I'm sensing magical energy coming from it. My guess is the inscriptions on the blade is what's enchanting the blade.

Let's try to analyze it.

When I analyzed the short sword, I found out that it was called The Fortified Crusader. Its ability is to strengthen the user's defense while also strengthening the blade so it would withstand attacks from heavy-duty weapons like battle axes.

It seems like the appropriate weapon for David's broadsword.

David swung his sword at Billy but instead of dodging, he actually blocked the attack. He was pushed back a bit but was able to stand his ground.

Billy then pushed David back.

"Heh! I forgot about that troublesome blade of yours." David muttered.

"Ya sure ya want to continue? Now that I even the playing field, it'll be a while until the winner is decided . . . Unless ya have a trick up your sleeve."

"Unfortunately, I don't. I didn't expect you of all people to get in my way so I'll retreat for now." David then puts away his sword and runs out the shop.

"Kenji, don't let him get away!" I ordered Kenji but Billy stopped me.

"Don't bother. Even if you did stop him, the person who hired him will just hire another mercenary to kill you."

I hate to say it but he's right. Even if I did catch David, it won't solve anything. At least now, I know who I'm dealing with.

"Well, now that I got myself into this mess, I don't see myself getting out now do I?" Billy looked at me and stared.

Don't tell me . . .

"Are you asking me to hire you?"

"Well, I wouldn't say that . . . But since your offering then I don't see why not!"
