[Chapter Forty-Three]
The celebration of Elspeth's O.W.L. results was incredibly small as she promised with only the girl and her parents in attendance when Hades arrived. He had made a promise to her and was the only guest that had arrived outside the family. While it bothered him to see others not taking in the celebration of the girl's accomplishments, Elspeth didn't seem the slightest bit bothered. If she was, she hid it incredibly well as she busied herself with other things, such as introducing Hades to Elton John. By the end of the night, she had successfully converted the God of the Underworld into a fan. The evidence was hearing the God hum the tune of "Bennie and the Jets" throughout the Underworld as he completed his work.
But as the celebration came to an end, so was the summer and soon enough, Elspeth was set to leave back to her school in order to start her sixth year. She was nervous about heading back, but it wasn't over the coursework. In fact, since she had done so well on her O.W.L.s, she didn't feel the need to panic over any schoolwork for the time being. However, she did know that she would eventually come to face the people that she had been avoiding all summer and the one that had been avoiding her.
At least with the boys, she had the dorms to escape to but with Lily, well, they were pretty much stuck with each other during the nights. Lily didn't write back and Elspeth was taking it as a clear sign that they were not going to be on friendly terms when they arrived back at Hogwarts. It didn't bother Elspeth as much, but the idea of riding the train alone royally sucked. Of course, she knew she could just give in, offer her forgiveness to the boys, but something at the back of her mind told her that it wasn't time just yet. Her parents had offered to just drop her off at Hogsmeade Station as she fretted about riding the train alone and she was honestly considering the idea.
Yet, Elspeth at least had a day before she had to worry about such things, instead, while her parents were working, the girl found herself in her usual place in the Underworld, keeping Hades company. It had been quite the summer of the two of them bonding and since he was the one to show up to her little party, she was considering him to her only friend at the time, outside of Alice and Frank.
That afternoon as she sat in the Underworld, she could hear Hades signing "Tiny Dancer" as it echoed through the darkness, which brought a bright smile to her face. It seemed that Elton John had won a special place in the Underworld when it finally came time to his passing. As Hades stumbled upon the girl, he realised that he shouldn't have been surprised, mainly because she was showing up every day.
"Hey, Hades, I have another question for you," she began, leaving him to freeze in place. She had already caused existential crises not only for Thanatos but for Morpheus and Hypnos as well as the Furies and he could not handle anyone else losing it.
"El, I'm warning you-"
"I promise, it's not one of those questions," she grinned, " at least, I don't think it is. I was just thinking about it last night and it left me curious."
