Maggie.
I chuckled as soon as I walked back into the bedroom, watching Don scrub the floor with soapy water and a broom.
"That's not good for the hardwood floor"
"Well" he grunted as he stopped and held the broom with one hand "we're not living here for much longer so" he dismissed, looking down at the floor.
"And why are you shirtless? Our neighbor is single" I motioned at the open window, the one that lead to the side of our neighbors house, even though it was far she could still see him if she wanted to.
"Because I'm doing labor and it's hot out" he gave me a glance, then went right back at it, the muscles on his arms flexed a few times, and the veins in his hand were popping out at the tension. "Did you have breakfast yet?" He said bending and moving the water around, checking if the painting was out yet. He whipped his brow with one hand then stood up again, he gave me a look, longer this time. I gave him a smile as I leaned in the doorway "you're not on supervising duty anymore"
"I was never in supervising duty, I'm just checking you out"
"Checking me out?" He said with a lifted eyebrow and a smile.
"Yeah, why did you think I married you? So I can check you out constantly"
"And here I thought it was my charming personality" I chuckled at his response, then stood away from the doorway and left him to continue with the bedroom.
Once I was down, I sat in the makeshift office I'd made downstairs, checking some blueprints on my computer.
Being pregnant was awesome, until it wasn't. I'd been getting more severe heartburn, it was annoying how many times a day I had to go to the bathroom, standing too much or sitting too much hurt my back, so I had to shift from one to other every couple of minutes. I had to begin to count my baby's kicks during the morning and before going to bed, and that was my favorite part of day, I loved to feel her move around, even if she sometimes kicked a little too hard.
I was sitting and checking blueprints and room designs whilst doing the kick count for the day. My sister was going to drop off my nieces and nephew just after school, Don had told me last night maybe taking care of kids wasn't the best thing for me, given how big I was, but I quickly reminded him that Talia was 13, Ella was 11 and Nathan was 5. The girls took care of themselves basically.
Maybe two hours passed until Don came back down, his chest and forehead were soaked, he ran a hand on his hair. He walked past me and returned with a water bottle on his hand. His eyes moved to my belly and he smiled.
"You look funny" he leaned in a tapped his finger on the top of it, the baby inside responded with a kick.
I gave him a smile and looked down at myself.
"Can't wait for her to be out. It's getting..." I sighed and gave him a tired smile "a little exhausting" he gave me a comprehensive smile and led his hand to my cheek, stroking it quietly.
"I know love, but you're doing great"
I gave him a little eye roll and shook my head.
"How do you figure that?"
"You always have a smile on your face, even though I know you're going through some pain and you're not sleeping at night."
